I think AB would be a great role player at the next level of college basketball. Beside his obvious ability to shoot it from beyond the arc, his kamikaze style of play would provide a burst of energy off the bench.

How'd the number 14 get printed; wasn't it 11; which is, of course, bad enough?
Green, Grandison, Niego Hargis, Verbeek, Lovisolo, Yuetter Lowder, Pridgen, Sandy
Copeland stayed in school, just couldn't play.
Unless this person dug up Powers, Charles and Stevens; which had nothing to do at all with the coaching change.

Also Cohen was among the departed from the team.

I just discovered that there are only two rounds to NBA draft so, I agree, he won't be drafted. Amending my prediction to: some NBA team will give him a tryout. And I did not eat cereal this AM, have no intention of contacting Mike Brey because I want him to play again for HC. Only two rounds indeed. And many second round draftees still end up getting cut.

Also Cohen was among the departed from the team. That was before Austin's time. Stevens, Charles, and Powers while a stretch in this conversation at least were actual team mates. If we're counting Copeland in the math, should Perkins also be counted. Like Copeland, he was a team mate of Butler's who hung up his sneakers, but stayed in school to graduate

Perhaps his year of grad school and another year to develop will help him to go further. Nice to hear him put in a plug for a grad school program at Holy Cross.

Austin Butler has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer. Thankful for everything this kid has done and hope he finds a great new home.

His announcement was posted here in an earlier part of this thread already. He said if HC had a grad school he would stay here but without one, he will be seeking a master's degree elsewhere. All of his comments about HC could not be more positive. I wish him only success - which he so richly deserves.

This is a very difficult year to look to transfer for a 5th year with many high D1 seniors (non NBA prospects) choosing to do another year. I remember a brief conversation I had with Austin. It was the summer after his first year; he was manning the ticket window in the Hart. I asked him about pitching in the spring of his senior year. I said that HC had a tradition of basketball players playing baseball. He said probably not baseball but maybe track & field, throwing the javelin.

Thanks for your efforts, Austin!
Wonder where he will end up; as hoops noted, there is likely to be all kinds of competition for spots. I would think that any team that needs to add some toughness and energy to their program would be interested.

I have no idea where AB will end up, but I wonder if there might be a place for him on a Big 10 roster. Jacob Grandson is starting for Illinois, a team that I heard someone say on Sportscenter is the best team in the country. I understand that AB and JB are different types of players, but I think AB's skills, high character, and leadership ability might make him a valuable addition. Big 10 schools also offer a lot of quality graduate programs that he might find appealing.

I love AB and his game, but he is not the athlete that Grandison is. Grandison did not perform at the high level that AB played while at HC, but as with many highly ranked high school players( see Kentucky, Duke) Grandison was deemed Big 10 worthy more because of his athletic potential than his hoops’ skills.

If he wants to stay D-1 and East Coast and is flexible with timing I’d guess something might pop open in a league like AE. They might already know him (or of him) and many of their rosters seem to be wildly in flux anyway. Obviously, it would have to be a team that projects him as an immediate and very impactful starter.

B1G would a very long shot. A10 is likely landing spot. Think Duquesne.

Maybe Stony Brook - they got a good look at AB a couple of years ago (although I know they had a different staff then). He reminds of another tough as nails kid they had 6-7 years ago....last name escaping me - Tommy.....Brenton? Also thought about Duquesne, ACTP

Austin is a studio arts major. Duquesne has a MFA program if AB wants to advance in that area
