Sad that the Lafayette fan board looks to be on its way out - looked at it today and the administrator is tired of all the negativity and has ended it.. I hope they get together to revive it with a more positive approach to their athletic program and related discussions. www.tapatalk.com/groups/lafayettesports/football-f1/

Thankfully there's never any negativity on Crossports so we should be all set.

To bad. But, their board did not really have a lot of posting on it anyway.
Sometimes Admin on these other boards like to have them scripted exactly how they want. It's not a blog.
It's a place to talk about sports.

from the administrator's explanation, the board was done in by parents with agendas,....Spiro Agnew's 'nattering nabobs of negativity'.

I think it's actually "negativism" not "negativity", but either way it is one of the greatest phrases of all time.

"Kremlin on the Crum" Spiro's description of Swarthmore., attributed to Agnew but not definitive. Crum is the name of the creek that flows by the campus. There is a covered bridge that crosses the creek, dutifully painted Moscow Red.

Sad. The board was the last thing associated with Lafayette athletics with even a faint pulse.

I think it's actually "negativism" not "negativity", but either way it is one of the greatest phrases of all time. It is a great expression. See this brief piece which explains that William Safire wrote it for Agnew and how it was used to hammer Ted Kennedy. Ted is in the news this morning for his inability to articulate why he wanted to be President in an interview with Roger Mudd who passed away yesterday at the age of 93. www.inquirer.com/philly/blogs/attytood/Nabobs_natter_about_the_passing_of_William_Safire_1929-2009.html

Just a reminder that boards like ours exist because some individual is willing to invest a lot of time and energy for our pleasure.
I know that Eric Stratton will never admit it, but we're lucky to have Dean Wormer keep our board up and running

Amen to that! I also think we have matured as a board. For example, I can remember the criticism heaped on Coach Evans when he took his extra year of eligibility (and GPA) to UConn as a way to get a Master's Degree. The support shown here for Austin and Matt is, I believe, a much more appropriate response. We now seem to understand much better the mechanics of the TP and the use of eligibility for a Master's Degree.

Plus their is a lot of different ages and viewpoints posting on this board. How many colleges with the size of HC have as active a message board as this one? Nobody else in the PL or Ivy.

A few years ago, when I was searching the internet for an HC sports forum, I stumbled onto one of the other PL forums (I can't recall which one), and someone referenced the "manic-depressives on Crossports." I then found Crossports and joined, and although we don't agree on everything (which would be boring) I think it's pretty amazing. We have a lot of smart, interesting, engaged people who keep the various threads going. So to my fellow manic-depressives, here's a tip of the cap.

...although we don't agree on everything (which would be boring) ... I think it is Benjamin Franklin who is reported to have said: "If two people agree on everything, one of them isn't needed."

Perhaps Dean Wormer can lend Greg Marmalard and Doug Niedermeyer to help straighten out that board! Marmalard and Niedemeyer would handle problem posters by telling them to "drop and give me 20" or by applying a paddle to their posteriors while requiring them to say: "Thank you sir. May I have another."

1. Better that than the Pards' fan died rather than his board. 2. Thanks for the quotation lesson. Always thought the "ghetto" quote was Hubert Humphrey's. So much so that I could picture him uttering it, not in the same context as VP Agnew would have.
