In case anyone is interested, it will be Caleb v. Pitino for all the marbles today at 4 on ESPNU. Fairfield and Iona (both with losing records) are on late season rolls.

Iona does not have a losing record they're 11-5, were seeded 9th in tournament based on league wins only and they missed a ton of games due to Covid.

Rooting for Iona. The players on that team have had over 50 days of no team activity throughout this entire season.
On Pitino the guy just wins.

Caleb Green transferred from a pace of play school (337 in 2019, under Carmody) to a comparable one (318). A perfect fit in that regard.
From what I saw of the Stags, I would have liked to have played them this year.

Hoops did he cheat when he took over 13-19 Providence and in 2 years with mostly the same players went to the Final 4, Did he cheat when he took over a Kentucky program on probation with limited scholarships and in his 3rd year took them to Elite 8 before losing probably the greatest game in NCAA history. The guy has done some sleazy things but there's no denying that he is an unbelievable coach and to say everything he's accomplished is the result of cheating is just false.

Ironically, Brian Bowen, at the center of one of Pitino's many improprieties, is no better than a two way player for the Pacers/G League. That level of player he could recruit blindfolded at both Louisville and UK, no need to cheat.

Hoops I would think it would be hard to find a coach at any level who has had success didn't skate around the rules.Ive seen it at the HS level,D3 & D1. That includes all sports. Is it right, thats a totally different discussion.

Is it right, thats a totally different discussion. 1- How many HS coaches, etc. hired prostitutes to entertain recruits ? 2- How many HS coaches, etc. had sex on a restaurant table with a non wife ? 3- How many HS coaches, etc, have paid for an abortion for a non wife ? 4- How many HS coaches, etc. have had 123 wins vacated including a (national) championship ? I guess this is “skating around the rules”. Is it right ? I do not need any discussion.

How many of the priest you spoke to in a confessional have had sex with alter boys? Life is full of smoke & mirrors in all walks of life. Sit back & just judge RP on his coaching & let the Almighty in the sky give him his judgement at his passing. Relax & Enjoy the weekend of college BB.

Questions 1 and 4 had to do only with his coaching.
Before the Almighty’s judgment occurred, Iona had to consider questions 2 and 3 in their hire.

IMHO, i wish sports writers, and fans would do away with the catch word Cheat...In every sport from day one. participants try everything they can to win and succeed. Today, we see sports changing rules because coaches and players exploit rules...No more "carries" in hoops are called, well maybe one or two a season..The bump and run pass defense change the game and rules changed that....spit balls were legal until pitchers got too good at using them..It goes on and on..Patino is a great coach, yo may not like him as an individual, but he gets results.. I met him in a recruiting meeting with one of ouur players many years ago he was at BU, when he first got into coaching, he could really recruit! I saw him in a clinic setting a few years later , he had just taken the PC job, best clinic I ever attended..I got so much useable info from him that it changed the way I saw players and the game... The guy can flat out coach!
I believe the only sport today that is "pure" is golf..The players call themselves out if they have broken a rule.....

I guess we need one of those truth meters from the Twilight Zone before any coach is hired.Just remember Power Breeds Corruption in all Walks, some get caught & scorned others fly under the radar & get praised.

Remember too that not getting caught does not mean that nothing was wrong. Look at the character the man has shown. Do you really believe that he violated rules and ethics ONLY on the times he was caught? He can certainly coach hoops, and it is a shame that his own ability is not enough of an edge for him. The problems come not because he "wants" to win. The hoop problems seem to come because it appears he MUST win (at any cost).

Pitino 20 minutes away from taking his fifth school to an NCAA Tournament. I can’t imagine hchoops will enjoy that.

As a fan they can take away the banners and reverse the wins but they can't take away the sheer joy those three weeks gave you watching your team cut down the nets.

I agree with both sides. Pitino is an exceptional coach and has won at all of his college stops. He also breaks the rules to get better players which helps him win. Lots of coaches break the recruiting rules. but can't match his success
-------------------
On a side note I have thought for some time that it's a shame the Patriot League is stuck on CBSSN for their championship while everyone else gets major outlet. Not watching the MAAC because it's on the U. Not a big deal to me anymore. Not that different in my mind getting dumped down to the U vs CBSSN

I'll go out on a limb and say Iona will win the MAAC tourney for as long as Pitino is there. Calling UMass what are you waiting for.

We should have hired Pitino but it was too big a pill to swallow for O'Kane/Fenwick....
