Penn State hired a new men's hoops coach a couple of days ago. So far today, 6 PSU players have entered the portal. What has happened to college basketball?

Sad but true. When I read that, it really hit me but you are right, it has changed so much and not for the better, imho.

Stuff like this is sanctioned by the NCAA, yet buying a dirt-poor 18 year old kid a burger at a fast food joint is a no-no. Priorities in the wrong place is a hell of an understatement...

Amen trimster-it is a mess, yet we all still love the game and hope someday before it is too late HC wins once again!🏀🏀

I think you'll start seeing coaching contracts call for 6 years- the first year if this continues is going to be a throwaway at most places.

Does this create an opportunity for Austin and/or Matt - both from PA?

I'd prefer more accountability rather than less. When colleges carry two big salaries at the same time or pay huge buyouts it annoys me when you think of the financial burden college is for so many.

Unfortunately, College hoops appears to be on the verge of succumbing to the all-about-me Lebronification of basketball/the NBA.
Players (most notably Jordan Bohanon from Iowa and Geo Baker from Rutgers) are now trying to get a #NotNCAAProperty hashtag on Twitter on the eve of the NCAA Tournament. It’s like someone has a gun to their head forcing them to get a full scholarship to play college basketball. The NCAA is far from perfect, but these guys know what they’re signing up for and nothing is stopping them from taking an alternate route if they think they can do better than the NCAA.
The lack of program continuity/development is negatively impacting the product and it’s getting harder and harder to get behind these players.

Agree 100% BBC. Duke and Kentucky miss the tourney for the first time in forever...a product, IMHO, of all the one and done players they have had....

Once upon a time I used to feel like a big wheel at the office (when there was an office), offering up March Madness advice to those folks in pools who didn't follow the sport. Now I'm feeling like one of those office types who make their selections based on their favorite colors or cool mascots.

Let's also not forget how the greed of many universities eliminated some great geographical rivalries in football and basketball. It's all resulted in a less appealing product for me.

UT-Martin must have had a recent coaching change because the portal has 15 UT-Martin players listed. One other possibility is they have disbanded their men's hoop program.

Of the 355 D1 schools, I wonder how many (if any) will not have at least 1 transfer in, or 1 out during this off-season.

One point where I do agree with the Geo Bakers of the world, I do not think video games should be using their likeness. Just as easy to have a generic basketball player wearing #0 for Rutgers that isn't designed to look like Baker

Give them jersey #s that end in 6, 7, 8 or 9...problem solved. And green faces.

If the NCAA said they would give players $2k per month, they’d want to know why it wasn’t $3k and on and on. You can say whatever you want about the NCAA but they are an open book — players know what they’re signing up for and are free to go play somewhere else at any time.

I don't disagree. I'm not saying compensate players for using their image. . . I'm suggesting stop using images of college kids
