This just in from Verbal Commits. Nolan Dorsey, a 6'5" guard has transferred from New Mexico to Holy Cross. Looks like he had about 15 offers coming out of high school.

He played in 8 games this past season, about 8 minutes per game...No big numbers statistically...3-10 fgs...

Adds some spice to those matchups particularly with both being guards.

We have seven returning guards (I think) and two new ones coming in. Maybe Nelson is going to play a lot of small ball--fast, athletic, good D.

I’m not worried about the imbalance of scholarship classes - we need as many good players as possible ’now’. The league is getting better

Quote from Dorsey (don't know when)... "you will see me in the NBA someday"... like the chip on his shoulder!!! However, we still need a big man stud....

I like it, transfers run the world in college basketball. -They can really help your team.
It does seem like anybody in college with any talent becomes a free agent after the first year.

UNM was 6-16 this year. If Nathan is a hidden gem he was well hidden. We are plus one in transfers this offseason so far. I expressed concern with the stampede out the door last year so Coach Nelson and staff deserve credit for not losing anyone this year.

Assuming no one is leaving I guess this answers the question about Joey Reilly, Dorsey makes 13 scholarship players not counting Reilly.

Welcome, Nolan- I hope you thrive athletically and academically at Holy Cross.
He has already been removed from the New Mexico roster but I found this story from the school's announcement of the 4 players who signed NLI's in November 2019
Nolan Dorsey | 6-5 | 185 | PG | Nightdale, N.C. Dorsey joins the Lobos from Millbrook High School in North Carolina where he spent three years on the varsity squad and helped lead his team to a conference championship in 2018. The 2020 graduate was also named to the all-conference team as a junior.
Dorsey also competed for Big Shots Elite NC where he averaged over 10 assists per game this past summer.
Coach Weir on Dorsey: “Nolan is a big point guard with outstanding ball handling and passing abilities. To get someone of his profile at the point guard position is something we have been working on since my arrival. With us losing significant big guard play and passing to graduation, this again provides us a great replacement to come here and develop into a great Lobo.”
Dorsey on Why He Chose UNM: “I felt that UNM was the best place for me to achieve my dreams. I want to play in a competitive conference against players that are going to challenge me and get me better. I have a lot of respect for Coach Weir and I think it was the best fit for me from a basketball standpoint. I believe my game translates to the system and I am eager to learn and get better every day.”

He's transferring to a team with a starting point guard in his class. I wonder how Coach plans on using Dorsey? No reason why he couldn't beat out RJ, but he is the same height as Butler so maybe he will see time as a wing also.

Will he be eligible in 2021-2022 or 2022-2023?
I would believe it would be 2022-2023.

Imme eligibility- 20-21 is a free year and transfers play right away - he actually could play 4 years at HC if the school does not like his transcript from UNM

If he is better than those we have or we are losing a guard or recruited guard it makes sense. If not, would have thought a big was in order?

He'll also have to be better than Kyrell Luc.

With Gates and RJJ, Nelson and RJE are 2-for-2 recruiting out of North Carolina.
Given the staff’s strong connections and track record in the state and this kid signing with a Mountain West school out of HS, I’m more than willing to trust that this is a solid (at minimum) pickup.

Nolan's brother, Patrick, plays for Navy. As a sophomore this past season, Patrick averaged 6p, 4r, and logged 395 minutes - third most on the team.

Immediate eligibility- 20-21 is a free year and transfers play right away - he actually could play 4 years at HC if the school does not like his transcript from UNM I thought the same thing...that he would enter as a frosh and not necessarily a second year player. He would then be able to compete for 4 years at HC. However, that is not mandatory. We'll just have to wait and see. Now where are we going to get some bigs???
