Immediate eligibility- 20-21 is a free year and transfers play right away - he actually could play 4 years at HC if the school does not like his transcript from UNM I thought the same thing...that he would enter as a frosh and not necessarily a second year player. He would then be able to compete for 4 years at HC. However, that is not mandatory. We'll just have to wait and see. Now where are we going to get some bigs??? We have Gates for two more years (hopefully), and Rabinovich + Louth for 3-4. Assuming the staff likes what they have seen from those three, that should be more than enough for at least 60 minutes at the 4/5, and then we have enough depth (and length) on the wing to play more creative 4-guard lineups in the other time. I am more than OK with this scholarship being used for best/most talented available player, regardless of position.

Hope he puts on 20 to 30 pounds over the next two years.

Decided he didn't want to play for Pitino's son. Or Richard Pitino told him he didn't fit into his plans.

He did not see the court in the last 11 games of the season for a very weak New Mexico team-I wonder if he was injured? I'll check NM press releases to see if there's any such info

Some more info on the Dorsey family from brother Patrick's bio on the Navy website:
Sister played basketball at the College of Charleston, mother played field hockey at Boston College and father played basketball at James Madison ... also, a brother plays basketball at New Mexico.

I believe many colleges and universities have a policy similar to this policy from UPenn. This would/could include HC and Wesleyan. IIRC, this assistance is quite generous.
I don't think this aid classifies a player as a counter. (This may also be true for other varsity athletes at HC who are children of an HC employee.)

Assuming no one is leaving I guess this answers the question about Joey Reilly, Dorsey makes 13 scholarship players not counting Reilly. I'm surprised that Reilly didn't transfer. He strikes me as someone who loves to play and could be very effective at a D3 school.

My wife worked in this world and we benefited from one of these tuition programs, although ours was not quite so generous.. Wesleyan's program is found here. www.wesleyan.edu/hr/shared/benefits/education/dep_tuition_fla.html It is half tuition at Wes and the equivalent if used at another school. I would think Joey's game would be more suited for a NESCAC setting but maybe he just likes HC and is happy with his role. I don't get it, but every kid is different.

Never in my life have I seen a message board with messages that are so consistently brief. Maybe they have a character limit. Possibly something we should try.

They all seem to wish Nolan well at HC and do so with a positive tone. Seems like the residents of "The Lair" are a classy group. The players on our team are looking better and better.

For a kid that was enrolled for a post grad year at a prep school, presumably to improve his hoops opportunities, to drop out at the last minute and walk on somewhere doesn't seem very logical. All we really know is that either Coach Nelson knows something about transfers out that we don't know (like last year) or someone we assume is on scholarship isn't. If it is a case of someone not on scholarship, it might be Reilly or it might not. In all fairness, we are all just speculating

He's transferring to a team with a starting point guard in his class. I wonder how Coach plans on using Dorsey? No reason why he couldn't beat out RJ, but he is the same height as Butler so maybe he will see time as a wing also. i can think of many reasons he may not be able to beat out RJ for the starting pg position. He may not even be our 2nd best pg but that doesn't mean we won't be seeing a lot of him on the floor when he becomes eligible.

He strikes me as someone who loves to play and could be very effective at a D3 school. Consider this scenario for ANYONE on a D1 team that wants to make a switch. NOT HIM IN PARTICULAR ! The only reason to transfer sooner than at the end of the academic year is for academic reasons, not basketball. One who transfers to a D3 school from a D1 school is immediately eligible. So, no need to consider sitting out a year as part of one's decision. AND, most of D3 was not playing in 2020-21. Better "career" move to stay and leave at the end of semester 2. And if somehow the player ends up being someone like Robinson of Williams, you still have a year of eligibility left back in D1.

The rule has always been you had to be at the new school for a year before playing. That was waived for this season and Gates was allowed to play right away. There is talk about permanently getting rid of the one year rule for first time transfers, but I don't think that has been voted on yet. I haven't heard any rumors about a one year extension of the waiver that allowed Gates to play

Were we recruiting him in high school? It would be nice if Nelson and company could do something soon about the need to place Div 1 before Holy Cross.

From the little we know, I really like the addition to the team. Clearly, this is a player that will suit Nelson's preferred style of play. The addition of another playmaker will inject much needed creativity into the existing squad. We saw glimpses of RJ running the offense last year and now it appears we have landed another table setter. A 6'5 PG is pretty uncommon in the PL and will create plenty of mismatches in the conference. Overall, the signing fits the Nelson mold. We're getting bigger, more athletic, and versatile. A stable of RJ, Nolan, and Kyrell is one that looks very promising. Great guard play is absolutely vital to getting the program back to where it needs to be. The quality of our guards has diminished over the past 10+ years and it seems we're on the right track. I'm hoping one of these guys can become the next Meade or Thomas and lead this program back to the promise land

One of the reasons Nolan only appeared in 8 games, and none in February, was his decision to transfer, that was made know at the end of January. It appears that leaving was announced on January 30th. A detail discussion regarding his decision and the factors can be found in the link below from the “Lair”. www.thelairnm.com/community/lobo-basketball/nolan-dorsey-opts-out/

Dorsey missed his senior season with an injury. The video of him and his brother noted that but didn't say what it was.
