Bucknell's was impressive defensively...
Defensively, Bucknell limited the 2019 Patriot League runners-up to 284 yards of total offense, including only 15 on the ground. Four different Bison picked off a pass, with freshman Blake Leake returning his first career interception 41 yards for a touchdown to put an exclamation mark on his team's dominant victory late in the fourth quarter

Watched a replay of the second half. Bucknell aided immensely by two tipped ball interceptions giving them a short field, and a third interception in which the Lafayette backup QB threw the ball into the arms of a waiting Lafayette Bucknell defender who returned it unimpeded for a TD.
I would describe Bucknell's offensive performance as competent, not intimidating. One very good receiver.
Lafayette does miss Shoemaker, who transferred.

Early battle of the last two remaining undefeated teams. Winner is in the driver’s seat to host the PL title game. Don’t think it matters for who wins our division to make it to the championship game.

If you watch the Bucknell game with the Pards (on ESPN+) it does make it appear that they have a good run defense and that they have receivers who can get themselves wide open. If their run defense is that good (Lafayette only got 15 yards rushing for the game), they will be a challenge for our offensive line. It could be tough to get the holes that our runners benefitted from against Fordham. Our developing pass defense will be hard pressed if they let Bison receivers get as open as they were in the Lafayette game. It will clearly be a busy week for our coaches.

Bucknell run defense wasn't quite as good as the stats imply, due to the archaic NCAA system of counting QB sacks as rushing attempts and negative rushing yardage. Once you adjust for that, LC had 17 rushing attempts for 31 yards.
I was somewhat surprised by the DL since their best lineman, Grayson Cherubino, who has started since his freshman year, was out with an injury. His replacement at DE was freshman Mike Bright Jr., whose Dad longtime hoop fans may remember. He scored almost 1700 points in the early '90's for Bucknell on the basketball court, was a PL POY, and is still near the top of the all-time steals leaders.

Through two games CD's passing stats are really sub-optimal
Attempts: 36 Completions: 19 Comp Pctg: .527 would hope for .600 or better Yards: 128 Yards/Attempt: 3.6 This is extremely low--7.0 is a good benchmark for this critically important stat Yards/Reception: 6.7 Again, extremely low---would hope for better than 12.0 . Especially puzzling given the low completion percentage Touchdowns: 2 Interceptions: 1

Don't forget CD's running for 54 yards in a game and a half (not counting the 31 yards lost on sacks) with a long of 25 yards. If a step quicker, that could have been a lot more yardage. Sluka appears to be that "step quicker.".

You see, he was talking about where he’d like to see our QB’s numbers on certain key stats and I wondered what that QB’s stats were last year and so I looked them up and then I posted them. So, you can see I just lost my head for a minute and I really, really have to say I’m sorry for all that.

I have been disappointed in CD's play plenty of times both this Spring and in 2019, but I hope that he fights like hell to keep his job. I am all in favor of an all out quarterback competition. Let the best guy win.

It is a bit awkward with CD as a team captain, IMHO.
In a perfect world the QB competition wraps up preseason with a single winner - and that guy plays well enough to hold the job.

Here's the key takeaway for me: something is really wrong for CD's numbers to have slipped so dramatically. Has lost his touch or have our receivers declined or are we are calling the wrong plays?

FWIW I think he had an awful first half v Fordham last year also and was benched in favor of the backup.

Normally, I would agree but although I want us to play to win the games this Spring, I would hope that the backups are getting more reps that normal in practice and I think that the coach ought to be quicker to pull the plug when things aren't working.

Or maybe he was really never that good (or as good as his numbers may have suggested). I've never been impressed, and have been hoping for an alternative - despite last year's PLC.

I think most of us are in the same boat re: how we view our QB situation. Don’t think it really helps to pile on a kid who is a team captain and by all accounts a very solid citizen at HC. Speaking of which, CD got some academic recognition today:

It's a short season with a chance at the playoffs. I think under Chesney's leadership it's one for all, all for one, all hands on deck, etc. Not that I wish for it, but it would not be surprising for a three TD, everything go perfect freshman week to be followed by a two interception, one fumble week, which is what makes this season so fascinating and why the team will utilize everyone who can contribute. The new OC appears nimble with his substitutions which is great.

^ That might affect our game this weekend. If Lafayette is the team with COVID issues the PL might move Lehigh v. Bucknell to this weekend and move the Lehigh v. Lafayette game to April 10.

Potentially bad news for our game vs. Bucknell this weekend - Lafayette is the team with COVID issues:
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Saturday's Lehigh-Lafayette football game, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Fisher Stadium in Easton, has been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Lafayette football program's Tier 1. Lehigh and Lafayette will attempt to reschedule the game following discussions with the two schools and the Patriot League office.
