The better team last night won. UConn did not play well at all; taken out of their offense nearly all game and they had no answer for McDonald? (#2) down the other end. It was like watching Tiny Archibald in his prime.

And Aari McDonald is coming off a (slight) sprained ankle. She made good decisions with the ball, often driving into the redwoods but then dribbling out or passing off if the shot wasn't there, seldom getting trapped and being forced to shoot or pass from an awkward angle. She didn't get stuffed by the bottom of the backboard like you see in the PL.

the physicality in women's basketball is evident - you need big, strong women on the inside to play the game at the highest level - UConn's center Nelson-Ododa is 6'5" but was totally ineffective and went scoreless- Bueckers is very good but her slight build at 5'11" caused her all sorts of problems - I am not seeing the fluid style of play anymore and it's not as appealing to me when you see bodies hitting the floor so much but 'it is what it is'

UConn has no seniors who start and IIRC as part of their incoming class they have the national high school player of the year. They're going to be even better next year.

Maybe, but they are clearly not the dominant team of the past. Others have caught up or surpassed them

Maybe, but they are clearly not the dominant team of the past. Others have caught up or surpassed them They’ve been to the Final Four 13 straight years. I think they’re doing okay. I would expect at least 2 titles in the next three years with Bueckers and Fudd leading the way. Stanford is the best team in the country and they haven’t won since 1993. UConn’s sustained excellence is without peer. South Carolina is getting close. Baylor after that.

Geno is currently stuck in semifinal purgatory but thirteen straight final fours is off the charts when you figure the Marv Levy/K-gun Buffalo Bills achievement of getting to four straight super bowls may never be duplicated.

Thrilling final. Stanford's "bigs" a lot better than Arizona's; who had to depend on McDonald for just about everything.
Az player was open on the last play; but I don't think she did a particularly good job of getting to a place where McDonald would find her. Actually I think Az would have been better off if they chose to inbound the ball from midcourt, where the play stopped; versus from the stripe. Throw it into McDonald in the backcourt with a head of steam- much, much more dangerous.

They were given a choice of where to inbound ?

They were given a choice of where to inbound ? In some cases they do. In the women’s game , a team has a choice as to where to inbound if they call a timeout in backcourt immediately after they gain possession. In that case a team can inbound at the normal spot or else at the 28 foot mark in their offensive end, which is the designated spot if a team opts to advance the ball. however, in this case the ball was not in back court when the timeout was called following the Stanford shot clock violation, so that rule does not apply. Under NCAA rules, the inbound spot after that sort of shot clock violation is also at the 28 foot spot. So they inbounded it at that spot, not by their choice, but simply because that’s the way the rules work.

UConn has added 6’4” Dorka Juhasz, a grad transfer from Ohio State who was first team all Big Ten the last two years. Two years of eligibility remaining.

Is Dorka the feminine version of Dork?
