HC is in orange alert status, and I don't think fans are allowed until status drops to yellow. (The upgrade to orange was planned before Easter break, because so many students would be off campus the college anticipated a spike in cases.) As of mid-day, nine students who have returned to campus following Easter break have tested positive. Also, Holy Cross has home baseball and softball games on Saturday afternoon. The college may not be able to produce two or three television feeds simultaneously. And it may be that Bucknell would like another day to prepare. Ok, I have to say that I am confused. The college takes the potential for virus transmission seriously enough that they only allow a quarter of the number of fans the state would allow in a 23,000 seat stadium but then lets the kids go home for Easter break (really a 6 day break.) I think that their parents could have made arrangements for the Easter bunny to go to their dorm rooms and deliver jelly beans and chocolates.

The college discouraged students from going home, and further discouraged them from traveling outside of Massachusetts. However, when you have parking lots full of student cars and no classes scheduled, plus 700? students living off-campus, what can you do? Schedule classes on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter? ,

If 9 kids returned to campus positive, could we have avoided some of that by requiring a rapid test at home immediately before the return to campus?

If 9 kids returned to campus positive, could we have avoided some of that by requiring a rapid test at home immediately before the return to campus? Rapid tests are like the quick strep tests - way too many false negatives and positives The moclecular/PCR tests can get you results in 3-8 hours as long as lab corp/quest are close by. The tests are only helpful to identify the infection and then use contact tracing to protect others. Unfortunately most students tend not to share completely....

The students want the break, the faculty wants the break, families want the break.

The students want the break, the faculty wants the break, families want the break. Really? So just invite a COVID spike so Jimmy and Sally and Dr. Jones can rest? Ridiculous.

They need the psychological break. Yes, Really. Why is that ridiculous? I actually don't think it is at all. The psychological factors are real - if they want the break give them the break. 9 cases is a Covid spike? Please.

The only saving grace might be that most grandparents and many parents at the Easter dinner table were vaccinated so it could be mainly younger person to younger person transmission. That doesn't help HC out but less deaths should occur per positive test result.

The updated count of new cases reported as of 7 AM Thursday.
3 positive cases reported on Monday, of the 572 students tested over the weekend 4 positive cases on Tuesday, of the 1018 students tested on Monday 9 positive cases on Wednesday, of the 1293 students tested on Tuesday.
HC isolation / quarantine capacity is at 75 percent available, so it would appear that there are few close contacts of the positive cases in quarantine, which is a good sign.
