Just saw on Twitter that we’re getting a new LED scoreboard at Fitton. The press release refers to a “partnership” with Daktronics. Anyone have any inside knowledge as to how this came to be?

It's too small, it's the wrong shape, it uses old technology, it's in the wrong place, TPTB did it on the cheap, it's short on features: just trying to get out ahead of the power curve on the review of this feature at Fitton Field.

Daktronics was "founded as a U.S. based manufacturer." But where was this scoreboard made? That question didn't even occur to me until I read the preceding self description by the company.
Holy Cross Athletics has "partnered with the College and Daktronics" but was this a purchase and sale for a specific price or some kind of sharing partnership where HC provides advanced Classics Instruction (including the Chariot race) to Daktronics employees and they give us the scoreboard?
Anyone else get tired of these murky self serving statements in announcements like this?

Can’t please everyone. As to size, we play in a 25,000 seat stadium not a 50,000 seat stadium so why do you think we need some gigantic video scoreboard? Be happy that we’re at least getting into the 21st century. Also be happy with a championship season if we are fortunate enough to win. Not the kids fault that COVID screwed up their season. If (when) they win the championship and that trophy goes in the trophy case in 2030 no one is going to beef about only playing a short season.

Who gives a rat's ass where it is made?
As to the use of "partnered", this is the 21st century and how sales & purchases these days are positioned. Nothing murky about the statement at all if you understood sales in this era. What did you expect HC to say?

Let's just forget the whole thing and bring back the small green scoreboard from 1980.....

Like I said, the question of where it was made didn't occur to me until I read the company statement that they were founded as a U.S. based manufacturer. So while I care in general about supporting U.S. manufacturing, I didn't specifically care where this was made until I read the statement, which created the question in my mind. Regarding what I'd like an announcement like this to say, the simpler and more straightforward the better for my tastes.

Will be operated from someone in the press box. An additional camera angle would depend on the build HC is purchasing.

Nothing murky about the statement at all if you understood sales in this era. What did you expect HC to say? I would expect HC to say that it’s installing an LED scoreboard. If the manufacturer is mentioned, that’s up to HC. I don’t consider an arms-length sale to be a partnership though, so I, for one, found the language used in the press release interesting, if not murky.

What a bizarre series of comments.
Seems like a great scoreboard. I’m please that after all these years we were finally able to get this done.

Just the usual gripes which I'm pretty damn sick of reading.
I'll take the scoreboard over the playing surface, which doesn't need to be changed. Plus, PP (or maybe it's someone else) can educate us on why it's problematic to install it.

I, for one, am excited about the new scoreboard. Definitely something we need. And I got my second shot yesterday so I fully plan to be there in the Fall even if I have to break out my fake RSIG uniform from a couple of Halloweens ago.

I am, but should not be amazed, that the nay sayers and eeyores always look for a negative, without seeing the depiction on the athletic website. The depiction appears to be able to provide in game stats, that many of us have used our iPhones during the game to find out.
Personally, I am elated, as this has been under discussion for over 5 years.
Regarding the playing surface, I walked the field during a game in the 2019 season. The field conditions were incredibly well maintained. The reason that field turf would not be a desired is because of the flood plain with the field next to the river. If the field is flooded, with containment’s, the carpet would have to be completely replaced. The same issue would be a problem replacing the softball field with a synthetic surface.
I was was watching the Richmond-William and Mary baseball game yesterday to see Chris Rinaldi and Austin Mosel, who now start for the Spiders. The infield base paths look tired, worn and in some places patched. They should be replaced.

From one picture, it is hard to gain perspective on the size of the scoreboard. However, they state it is 48 ft wide. The width of the field is roughly 150 ft. So if the board stretches across 1/3 of the back of the end zone--that seems more than appropriate for the space and maybe even impressive.
Another statement not commented on is that it will be "ready" for the 2021 graduation (in 7 weeks). Was that a typo?

It's obviously the pride of the award winning grounds crew.
