From one picture, it is hard to gain perspective on the size of the scoreboard. However, they state it is 48 ft wide. The width of the field is roughly 150 ft. So if the board stretches across 1/3 of the back of the end zone--that seems more than appropriate for the space and maybe even impressive. Another statement not commented on is that it will be "ready" for the 2021 graduation (in 7 weeks). Was that a typo? If it wasn’t true, why would they put it in the press release regarding the time frame that it will be completed for viewing. The Holy Cross graduations at the DCU Center, the most recent I attended in 2018, have used the overhead video board to enhance the graduation presentation with video and graphics before and during the ceremony. It was very well done. I understand why they would like to have the project completed for commencement.

I like the video board a lot. Even though I sit in the end zone it will be nice to see replays and stats!
I just wish baseball could use it on the other side to.

This is a tremendous development for Holy Cross that will greatly enhance the game day experience for fans at Fitton Field

The “Fitton Field” fronting the arch is a nice classic touch.

Next move, field turf 😎😎😜😜 Natural grass is better than rubber mats & green plastic blades.

I am, but should not be amazed, that the nay sayers and eeyores always look for a negative, without seeing the depiction on the athletic website. The depiction appears to be able to provide in game stats, that many of us have used our iPhones during the game to find out. Personally, I am elated, as this has been under discussion for over 5 years. Regarding the playing surface, I walked the field during a game in the 2019 season. The field conditions were incredibly well maintained. The reason that field turf would not be a desired is because of the flood plain with the field next to the river. If the field is flooded, with containment’s, the carpet would have to be completely replaced. The same issue would be a problem replacing the softball field with a synthetic surface. I was was watching the Richmond-William and Mary baseball game yesterday to see Chris Rinaldi and Austin Mosel, who now start for the Spiders. The infield base paths look tired, worn and in some places patched. They should be replaced. We have had the discussion about field turf instead of grass on the old board as well as this one. The college has examined this, and as you point out, if the field flooded as it has in the past, the rug needs to be replaced because of contamination. One can find flood plain maps here. www.worcesterenergy.org/leading-by-example/resilient-worcester/mvp/flooding-causes-flood-viewerThe Middle River, next to the North stands, is a regulated floodway.

No doubt grass is nicer. Turf allows for less maintenance plus more events (cash flow for HC). High School Football Playoff games, Concerts. Nice additional money stream for the school. Good possibility not a reality. (YET)

Did you not read the post above?
Short of raising the entire field above the flood plain, there is never going to be an artificial surface on Fitton.

Any talk about video in the Hart Center? Not recently but a thought about justice ran through my mind when you asked. The football team and coaching staff has earned a new amenity with their performance. Not that it probably factored into the decision, but I'm happy they got a new scoreboard first based on how hard they have worked and how well they have represented the school.

Best I can say for those who keep insisting it happen. When they redesign the place (for big bucks) so that it can be used for multiple events, it's at least worth getting a feasibility estimate of what it would take. But not until then. No one seemed to have a lick of foresight in 1985 to do that (not the turf, of course; as the good stuff didn't exist until around 2000). Could have been done a lot better for the same cost, smaller capacity, for sure; but we were too worried about not having enough seats when Princeton came to town.

goo.gl/maps/PAG3UPU1wtMYPs328This is an image of the buried culvert for the Middle River, as seen from Southbridge St.. the culvert was built in conjunction with I-290. Before the culvert, the Middle River was visible from the north side of Fitton. When there is too much water, and/or debris blocks the culvert opening, reducing its capacity, the water backs up and begins overtopping the river banks. I have heard stories of the water being over the bridge railings on Southbridge St. goo.gl/maps/6wMmphzEfdnrDnjj7^^^ This is the Middle River east of the bridge on McKeon Rd, having emerged from the culvert.

Does anyone have an idea of the cost of this new scoreboard ? IMO, it’s worth it !

Looking at the information releases for the new video board, with the scoreboard depiction, I would have one suggestion.....Move the board to the left so the left upright of the goal post will not be in the field of vision.
I can’t wait to see this new addition to Fitton Field. Hope the Hart Arena and Rink will be on the horizon for a similar, but obviously smaller display.

Does anyone have an idea of the cost of this new scoreboard ? IMO, it’s worth it ! UNH's video board, installed about five years ago, and about 20 percent larger, but about as aesthetic as a drive-in screen, cost about $1 million. Paid for out of an unrestricted bequest to the university, said use of the bequest engendered controversy.

Position shown on the rendition may not be the actual position Crucis. At the very least the video portion of the board will be just one solid color with the HC shield, or at least completely static when any FG or XP is attempted at that goalpost.

Beautiful. State of the art technology encased in a classic design that meshes with the iconic stadium. (HC not UNH.)

Outsider chiming in here...as I stated in the playoff thread Daktronics is based in Brookings, SD where your Crusaders will be playing Saturday. Your board will be manufactured in that plant. No doubt some of your school officials will be touring the facilities. The Daktronics campus is approximately 6 buildings of all types of manufacturing, office space, engineering and quality/reliability. It was founded by two SDSU professors 50 some years ago. A true rags to riches story. Holy Cross is getting a great product.
