With Berard moving on, who are some of the coaches that may be candidates to fill the vacancy? I'd imagine Blossom will stick with the youth hiring trend. Given UMASS' success and close proximity, we may not need to look too far from home.

Won't be any current D1 head coach. That much is near certain.

Given UMASS' success and close proximity, we may not need to look too far from home. UMass assistant Ben Barr has been up for bigger jobs, I doubt he is interested in Holy Cross. (Can Holy Cross afford him?) He was also the recruiting guy at Providence who brought in that group that won a National Title.

I'm pretty certain Ben Barr will be holding out for a "big time" Head Coaching opportunity. I believe he is the sexiest up and comer in the country. Would not be surprised if he gets named at Colorado College, but even that program may not be what he's looking for. They are very challenged to win out there, even with a new rink coming. That league is heavy duty.

I'll put this out there...
If AD Blossom hasn't already called Paul Pearl to see where his mind is at after 7 years away, I lose a lot of hope after only 1 day of regaining some for this program.

Jeff Cox, who writes for NE Hockey Journal, speculates on Berard going back to PC in an administrative role and lists a bunch of names as potential replacements. Most of the article was behind a paywall, but these were the names tagged in the article:
The head coaches at Trinity (Matt Greason) and Norwich (Cam Ellsworth) from the D3 ranks Prep ranks: Tim Whitehead from Kimball Union Academy, formerly UMaine’s coach D1 Assistants, Bill Riga and Joe Dumais from Quinnipiac and Glenn Stewart, UNH assistant coach and Paul Pearl
I agree about calling Pearl immediately, but I think they should do some diligence on the Trinity coach too. Won D3 national title in 2015 and made it to the championship game in 2017. 168-58-18 career record. He is used to recruiting high academic players, small school, etc. Maybe check in on Brock Sheahan, former assistant and current head coach of the Chicago Steel, a top USHL team, dialed in on recruiting, scouting high school and junior players, knows the school, etc. Niagara used to be us a couple of years ago and went the USHL route. Record hasn’t been great but made it to the finals in 2019 and lost in the semifinals this year.
My 2 cents, that and a metro card will get you on the subway

I like where you are going with high performing D-3 head coaches. I would also be very pleased to welcome Paul Pearl back who is a former Head Coach who has won in the NCAA tournament. Hiring a career assistant is a crap shoot.

Glenn Stewart AHC @ UNH is a likely candidate.

HC hasn't advanced out of the first round of the AH tournament in seven years. Not exactly wonderful either

While it's not the most attractive job out there, I'd imagine the profile that Blossom is seeking is ironically similar to what HC got when they initially landed Berard. A younger coach with experience in HE and the reputation for being a solid recruiter. Clearly, recruiting never picked up, but if Blossom is able to pick up a HE/ECAC program's recruiting coordinator, we'd hopefully get the program back on the right track. That's not to discount Xs and Os, but getting creative on the recruiting trail will go a long way.

I think hire somebody with head coaching experience would be great.
Like Worcester State just did hiring Bob Deraney who was a winner as a head coach.
I would still give Bavis a call.

Patrick Rissmiller '02 should be the guy. Currently a Development Coach with the New Jersey Devils. NHL playing experience...HC playing experience.

Any idea how much Berard made yearly? Based on what I have read, it’d be hard to pass on a guy like Barr if he had interest in coming to HC. Seems there are plenty of good options and not too many openings, which hopefully works to our advantage.

When the Holy Cross MBB head coach position opened up it was the only opening in the country.

Yet to be a coach on a bench. Zero NCAA coaching experience. Zero recruiting experience. Zero experience running a program: there is so much to do administratively it's insane. As an Asst @ HC...maybe. Why is he the guy in your mind?
