I would be very pleased if HC conducted a search like this. The salary is described as low, but combined with a state employee pension it doesn't sound too shabby for the cost of living in Northern Maine. Can I assume that Dave Berard made less than 233K? You could safely assume he earned less than $233K. Salaries in the AHA must be less than in HE.

Change that "2" to a "1", do a little more subtraction and you'd be in the ballpark for Berard in his final year at HC (his 7th). Imagine how brutal the salary was 7 years ago, 15 years ago?

This is the reason a guy like Barr would not be interested in the gig as he is making more at UMass.

Or when the head hockey coach (Mike Adessa) was also an assistant football coach!

Shouldn't we expect an announcement very soon on our new leader ?

Shouldn't we expect an announcement very soon on our new leader ? You would think. Its a tough spot. You want to find the best person but you also want to give them time to figure out what players they have and what players they need to get. You would think that the AD would have began this search when Berard told him this is it.

Doing it through his won/loss record in recent years is a creative way to announce one's departure.

I ;looked at his bio and enjoyed reading this: "The Bobcats’ recruiting coordinator, Riga has played an instrumental part in Quinnipiac’s last five NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by a pair of appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four and National Championship Game in 2013 and 2016."
GO CROSS GO!

I'm not familiar with him, but if he's responsible for Q's recent recruiting this is a great hire.

The one sentence devoted to his seven years at Holy Cross says it all. There is some type of accolade for all his other stops but none for his highest career position. Nonetheless he coached and departed honorably without scandal. Thanks for your service Coach and good luck with this fresh start.

The bread crumbs are starting to accumulate along the Interstate Rte. 84 median strip. Riga has a similar career background to Berard before he was hired.

I'm pretty certain Ben Barr will be holding out for a "big time" Head Coaching opportunity. I believe he is the sexiest up and comer in the country. Would not be surprised if he gets named at Colorado College, but even that program may not be what he's looking for. They are very challenged to win out there, even with a new rink coming. That league is heavy duty. He was named the Maine head coach today

They said the same thing about Carvel at St Lawrence his alma mater and hometown. Money talks so we will see what UMass does with him. The NHL bug has been in him for a long time so we will see if he goes back. Good luck on your HC search. Our AD posted on twitter after the regional wins that a contract extension was in order and the following day Greg Carvel post Yes. That said sure there will be an updated contract with a good raise offered. The thing that was surprising is during the post game presser on twitter, Carvel could barely talked. Was happy and not ungrateful but said this season was a real grind day in and day out. He was totally spent and looked it. He was going to lay low for the next few weeks. Time will tell but also can see being happy here, with is wife from Amherst, could pass on the NHL, but will be his decision. There is now some smoke coming out of Buffalo that Carvel is interested in the Sabres job....Could be a negotiating ploy but when Pierre McGuire is dropping your name for the job on a national broadcast, it is very interesting.

That Buffalo Sabres job is a mess. They have fired so many coaches after 2 years. They want success and yet the team has no goaltending at all. Look at David Quinn. A rebuilding project and he gets canned.
