Looking forward to reports from this session. In past years our Worcester resident posters were able to make some practices and provide great insights on individual players.

I'm sure there's a reason but it would seem to make more sense to do this on a day when we have a home football game to maximize attendance.

Any reason why they couldn't hold the open practice in the Field House???
Real easy for people to drop in there prior to FB game. Missed opportunity to showcase the team in front of a lot of people.

Looking forward to reports from this session. In past years our Worcester resident posters were able to make some practices and provide great insights on individual players. I only recall Coach Brown doing this once. 2012-2013 season if I recall. And once people were allowed into the normally closed Purple-White scrimmage because there was no home football on Homecoming. However, he was very open about letting anyone in to observe a practice that asked in advance. Last year was a different animal with getting the troops ready for a whole new system. I am not aware of any outsiders being allowed to watch any practices last year.

Exactly. Just wondering why it isn't. The court (and access to the court) may not be ready for the public by this Saturday. Not a bad theory but the floor is in and the bleachers are in so I'm not sure what more we would need. I guess the new lobby might be further along with another week and maybe they want to showcase that. Who knows? It can't be that the AD didn't consider the pros and cons of various dates so there must be a reason.

Generally, head coaches don't like their practices being open. My gut tells me CBC doesn't like them.

The court and the bleachers may be ready, but public restrooms may not be. Also fire exits, fire alarms, and perhaps even sprinklers must be functional. The city building and fire inspectors have to give the okay for a large number of the public (i.e., a thousand or more) to be admitted.
The first ice hockey game at the Hart is Friday the 28th at 7 PM. That's probably the date the contractor is shooting for with respect to public access.

I think phreek likely has it correct.
When I wandered into the Hart Center last week, there was no obvious egress & exit routes out the front side of the building from the lobby. Not sure about inside the gym.
I believe that if the gym is opened to the public, it becomes - according to the fire code - a public assembly space. In order to allow the public to access a public assembly space, you need a certificate of occupancy which at a minimum means adequate egress that meets the code.
And having been involved my share of construction projects where a C of O is needed, yes a week can make a huge difference. Many things that happen in the final week to get a C of O, for example, fire alarm and sprinkler tests, which generally have to be witnessed by the fire department.
These tests are typically planned as part of the construction schedule and coordinated with the fire department, who are not necessarily available on 24 hours notice. And to make the C of O coordination a bit more complicated, the insurance company typically wants in on witnessing the same tests as the FD, so it's not quite like they can simply move up the date a week to accommodate an open practice.

Leave it to PP and his building codes to solve the problem.

I emailed DOBO David Metzendorf, Director of Basketball Operations , regarding watching practice this week, and was told practices are closed. He sent me the info on the open practice..It is a very common practice to keep visitors out of practices...Many coaches live to the old saying.."What goes on at practice, stays at practice."

Shucks!!!
Can't make the open practice on the 29th!
As a Warden in one of our 4 precincts, I have to spend the day working the first day of early voting here in Massachusetts!

Clowning aside, a lot of college coaches make an exception to closed practice rules for local high school coaches. Even though DiMarz hung up his whistle, he might play that card
