Just read the announcement regarding Morgan Valley. If UHart promotes from the current staff, former HC assistant, Melissa Hodgdon, may be the next Head Coach.

This is tough for them. With 15 sports and a 176 million dollar endowment. No good reason for this. Watch the athletic donations plummet.
They just made the NCAA tournament.
Opens up a spot in America East for somebody.

Wow. Feel for all of the current student-athletes.

Will be very interesting to see if the school slides into financial distress - their BOT is betting that they can become more viable with this short term cost saving move - with a mediocre academic ranking, I would be worried about their future

Maybe Morgan Valley saw the handwriting on the wall at Hartford and she just resigned to take an assistant's position at UConn, replacing Shea Ralph. Valley was 4-37 in her two seasons at the helm.
Unfortunately, Hodgdon has the "interim" label attached to her new appointment, but would seem a good choice for the longer term, given the plan to transition to D3. She had some success, especially early on, during her 16-year stint as the head coach at Wheaton.

Be interesting to see where John Gallagher, who I believe is well liked and respected in the coaching community, ends up. While I think he's a decent coach, his head coaching resume is just okay, despite taking Hartford to the NCAAT this past season.
He has Philly ties.
John Becker and the entire Vermont athletic department and administration may be in hot water these days, so maybe that's a landing spot.

I think that this is too bad. D1 athletics did provide them a certain cachet. I don't see how they really stand out anymore. The campus and the location are pretty cookie cutter and boring although the kids can get to West Hartford Center/Blueback Square in a few minutes. (I doubt that they go to downtown Hartford very much.) Perhaps 6 kids from our local high school have gone there to play soccer. They have been pretty sharp kids who had higher academic options but chose D1 and some sort of scholarship. The other kids who go there tend to be average students. Tuition is well discounted from the sticker price for everyone.
What D3 league will they join? Little East or NEWMAC would seem to be the logical choices. University Athletic Association (Brandeis, Rochester, Emory, NYU, etc.) would be good company to keep but the travel is expensive and I am not sure those schools would want UHart.

No, Little East is, now that I look at it, all small state schools (ECSU, Plymouth St, Umass Boston.) I can't see the NESCAC inviting UHart even knowing that former UHart president Walter Harrison is a Trinity alum.

UAA I believe is mainly high academic national universities roughly in the East -- NYU, Brandeis, UChicago, Emory are in it. Little East makes the most sense for a landing spot given that Western CT State and Eastern CT State are both in this conference. Unrelated but Holy Cross is 0-2 against the Little East in Men's Basketball since I enrolled in 2006.

You're counting the exhibition loss to RIC and, of course, the infamous loss to UMass Boston last year? Or is there another date which will live in infamy?

Didn't we beat Nichols to start the year 3-0 a few years ago.

The Little East is a conference of mostly schools you're not familiar with. I know Keane (NH) St and Plymouth (NH) St are both in it ---0 slow with this, I started typing and got interrupted with work stuff for a half hour so it was a little redundant.

If UHART had any guarantee games in upcoming years in Mens Hoops, would those get cancelled or would they likely still play those?

Not sure if falls under guaranteed games but I read the other night that Duke is hosting a tourney next year with Army, Hartford and a 4th low to mid-major. Perhaps the Dookies would like to replace Hartford with another squad?
