Did anyone else notice what appears to be a lack of any diversity in this video showing the students who are shaping the future of Holy Cross athletics? I hope this was simply an oversight. I also hope it can be corrected in future videos on this important topic. The document did a better job in this regard.

Quick read:
Facility highlights. > New softball field > Improvements to soccer and lacrosse fields > Replace field hockey field and track > Videoboards (plural) > Study on what to do about the rink, inference being that it is inadequate. > Feasibility study on installing field turf on certain fields (fields not specified)
---- No mention of changing the number of sports offered More scollies for 'Olympic' sports Higher salaries for coaches

Perhaps this is a reference to the locker rooms at Fitton Field, and a locker room for softball nearer to the new softball field.

Is it bad I was hoping for..."given the realities of our time, we have decided to cut 10 programs to focus our efforts on men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's ice hockey, and men's baseball / women's softball"

Impressive full color multi media presentation. Meanwhile AIC cleans our clock every year without even having an ice surface on campus. In practice it appears the most direct route to Athletic success is an AD who knows how to select winning coaches. So while the CAF shifts into overdrive to fund these initiatives I hope we hire coaches who have demonstrated their ability to build winning programs when openings arise.

Is it bad I was hoping for..."given the realities of our time, we have decided to cut 10 programs to focus our efforts on men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's ice hockey, and men's baseball / women's softball" We are already lagging behind peer schools in applications growth. Cutting ten programs would accelerate that. HC can't afford to eliminate reasons for students to apply, attend, participate and pay tuition. We need all the current reasons and hopefully create some new ones to keep up.

Point 2 of the plan: Achieve and sustain competitive excellence. Surprised this wasn’t mentioned above. In short, win some games and, hopefully, championships. After going 5 for 110 in winning seasons in the FADNP tenure, glad to see that ADMB and the admin see Point 2 as a priority.

"...re-establish Holy Cross Athletics within the fabric of Worcester..."
After decades of neglect, this is good to hear, though I'll believe it when I see it.
Riding the good wave of Ches and FB program for residual effects to the other revenue sports is the way to do this. Have to strike while iron is hot, and hopefully a plan is in place to engage the bizs with $ to spend first thing in the morning a week from today, not wait until mid-summer.

will be tough to "...re-establish Holy Cross Athletics within the fabric of Worcester..." without robust out-of-conference schedules in which we are competitive.

UNH (New Hampshire not New Haven) Maine, URI. Why would UNH and Maine consistently want to play HC? They can literally schedule anyone they want while playing in the SEC of FCS. There is only one OOC opening on UNH's schedule for a long time coming as Dartmouth series is restarting in 2021 and I think an easy FCS win gets priority.

Any strategic plan at a college level is a pastry: light as air.
No plan is going to set hard expectations: e.g., "Our strategy is to get out of the Patriot League" or not so specific as to come back to bite the AD, e.g., "five NCAA basketball appearances in the next 10 years." Using phrases like "high-performance culture", well, who is going to propose a low-performance culture?
Outside of a $3M annual goal for the Crusader Athletic Fund, there are very few metrics in the prospectus to evaluate its success.

They are going to want to keep their strength of schedule up for post season at large consideration. If HC wins on Saturday it will be two years in a row as league champs and NCAA participants. How often have you read stories about teams on the bubble that say "Blank has a good record but has only faced one opponent who was in the tournament last year."? Besides, the concept is who can HC schedule to increase it's strength of schedule. Who can you think of besides these three former Yankee Conference rivals?

6 football games now are written in stone, the PL.
Yale at least is scheduled the balance of this decade. Any reason to believe Harvard is no longer an opponent?
One FCS game a year.
Probably one NEC level or similar.
One CAA, most likely not the same school. Home and home, then someone else. No reason that Albany & Stony Brook aren't possibilities for that as well; they are also short trips. UA was played at least once.

I thought the most noteworthy items were taking a look at the rink (which is admitting that even through the Luth was a fantastic project; the hockey program was left holding the bag) and the roundabout way Fitton was introduced into the mix (artificial turf, which could be either baseball or football or both....yeah, I know the flood plain may kill that idea; and locker rooms) And, yes, both basketball programs were singled out.

Regarding the schedule, should HC be gentlemanly and offer to relieve Colgate of it's game against BC in the fall with HC's opponent playing Colgate?

Regarding the schedule, should HC be gentlemanly and offer to relieve Colgate of it's game against BC in the fall with HC's opponent playing Colgate? Nah! Our opponent for September 4th will provide better odds for a HC victory. They are a former long time yearly rival pre PL. Also, the parking is by far more convenient, and the tickets are less expensive. I would like to see the two teams Colgate has scheduled for September 11th and September 18th, visit Fitton during this decade. Just for a change in FCS opponents. fbschedules.com/colgate-football-schedule/

On the new softball field. My guess is that the new field will be sited on Freshman Field, reversing the current field orientation, with home plate tucked into the slope of the hill. My guess is that the elevation of the field will be raised by several feet (to reduce flooding risk) and that field turf will be installed. New locker rooms for softball will be built between HC facilities building and SE Corner of Fitton stands. From a quick glance at the flood plain maps, the current site of the softball field is at greater risk of flooding than is Freshman Field. The baseball field and the football field are proximate to a regulated flood zone, which probably means you can't berm the perimeter of the baseball field, and reduce the risk of flooding. The regulated flood zone was probably established as a consequence of I-290 construction, particularly the ramp from Southbridge St. headed west. goo.gl/maps/kco2ynHnxsv2MmTa7Google streetview looking toward College Sq and Southbridge St. Note lower row of windows on the old factory building are bricked/boarded up. On the newer building (closest to Southbridge St.) the slight discoloration of the lower course of brick may indicate high water marks. Because the culvert for the Middle River, which runs next to the football stadium, has a restricted opening, the river in flood will back up at the culvert and spill over into College Square and the baseball field and the football field goo.gl/maps/9qmhrozxLPKjdjVT9Google streetview from McKeon Rd. at the bridge over the Middle River, looking at the north stands. Middle River can't be seen, as it is flowing underground in the culvert. This area is also classified as a regulated floodzone. If there are street or yard drains carrying stormwater runoff from College Square and the baseball/football stadiums directly into the Middle River, the river, in flood, will backflow up into those drains and flood the playing fields and College Sq.
