td, what you and An0maly need to do is drill down into these articles with disparate headlines, instead of fanning flames of incoherent finger pointing. They were talking about different endpoints and different definitions. What they all show is that the mRNA vaccine was effective in each case in preventing serious illness, hospitalization and death. As we learn more, there will be further understandings we will need to parse and this is progress, not a sign of nefarious activity. When it comes to this pandemic, "Let's win"! That means rational public health measures of vaccination and masking while in public.

Regarding the astronomical sums to fund distribution in countries with little oversight, I share your concern. The recent glimpse into the corruption and brutality in Afghanistan raises the question of whether societies that choose to live by midieval rules should expect space age medical interventions without paying for them and without reforming their governance.
It might be best for authoritarian regimes like China and Russia to vaccinate smaller autocracies and risk taking two in the hat for their trouble.

Is it possible that there are different definitions of "effective"? Is it possible the US is saying that the vaccine/drug is 95 percent effective of keeping you out of the hospital and that Israel is saying only 39 percent effective in preventing getting COVID and but still prevents severe illness (like going to the hospital). I didn't read the link, but this might not be contradictory information

39% of something is still better than 100% of nothing. I'm hoping the FDA has been focusing on safety also. I hope their stamp of approval will mean scientific evidence projects there should be no widespread serious side effects to taking the drug.

To the extent this qualifies as news, Jesse Jackson and his wife - both vaccinated - are in the hospital with Covid.

What does the 1st Amendment have to do with this? That Amendment says that Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech.

Governor Abbott of Texas has tested positive. He has no symptoms, as he is fully vaccinated. ________________ Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Saturday said he’s now testing negative for COVID-19, less than a week after he was diagnosed with the virus.
“I am now testing negative for Covid. I am told that my infection was brief & mild because of the vaccination I received,” Abbott wrote on Twitter.

Dear Dean Wormer, I respectfully ask you to delete this thread which I started. I might imagine a similar thread can be started if so desired.
When doxxing individuals becomes an allowable or accepted practice here, I’m out.
I wish you all the best.

I don't understand the problem with discussing the background and statements of someone you cite as a source. I confess I'm not very familiar with Faleski but I've seen screen shots of tweets he posted that are ant-semitic. PP's post was respectful and fact-based. Your response to his post was shrill and inaccurate.

From this thread I learned the meaning of doxing (also doxxing) and its derivation from "docs." I never cease to be amazed by what one can learn through CROSSPORTS.

straying a bit from the current direction, but still under "all things COVID", I was talking to someone yesterday, who was not vaccinated. His primary care physician said that he, as a very healthy person, should not get the vaccine until it is FDA approved.
First person I ever heard say they were told that by their doctor. I thought that was interesting

When I have been asked, I have told everyone to check with their personal physician first. He/she would be, IMHO, the best source for such a recommendation since they would have overall knowledge of the patient and that person's condition and needs.

His primary care physician said that he, as a very healthy person, should not get the vaccine until it is FDA approved. First person I ever heard say they were told that by their doctor. I thought that was interesting I can understand and appreciate a doctor saying this, assuming this person is not in an age group where the risk of severe COVID is comparatively high. 235 unvaccinated HC students caught COVID on campus and AFAIK, none were hospitalized. So the relative risk of being infected and made seriously ill was probably very small. The military tried to vaccinate personnel against anthrax under an Emergency Use Authorization. The military personnel sued in Federal court and won, the court declaring the government could not compel vaccinating against anthrax using an EUA. Pfizer will get full approval in the next two days, so presumably this individual will now roll up his sleeve. Same for the military. The Pentagon is about to mandate COVID vaccinations, and is on much stronger ground to do so when a vaccine is fully approved. Over 70 percent of the Navy is already fully vaccinated, the Marines are lowest, at about 60 percent.

Yes, my understanding of doxxing is that it is searching out and posting previously unknown information with a malicious intent.

Alright. That's enough. This thread ceased to be of much real use a while ago. Yeah we've gotten some good information, but the whole issue of COVID and vaccination has become such a political football of one-ups-manship, I'm just tired of the back and forth.
Going to leave the thread but lock it.
There isn't much more to say here and honestly don't care if Holy Cross had 1 positive case out of 1000 tests.
And some time ago, the administrators of Proboards - the service that runs and hosts this site - notified and warned all moderators about posting of misinformation and I'm having a hard time discerning how authoritative some of this stuff is. I have been broad in that interpretation for the sake different points of view on interpretation of data but recent posts, while not outright falsehoods, have not been complete in order to support the point-of-view of the author.
td128 - I think you're a bit too sensitive. No one's been "doxxed" and no it will not be tolerated if it shows up here.
So again, I'm tired of all this after 1.5+ years. I want and I think most others want to escape this stuff here.
Once again no one's mind is going to be changed or persuaded by what is posted here, so this thread is officially locked and no more COVID Library threads will be tolerated. Holy Cross COVID real news and policy changes ... fine. Holy Cross daily or weekly testing results, not so much. We all know where the data is and can find it if we want it. And will have a VERY short leash on commentary about the wisdom or short-sightedness of such policy announcements and such.
Future similar threads and posts will be deleted.
Carry on.
