From The Athletic Holy Cross at No. 1 South Dakota State (-24) 3 p.m., Saturday on ESPN3 Holy Cross has proven to be the class of the Patriot League. Even in the short sample size this spring, they have outscored opponents 87-37. Their rush defense has been stifling, and their pass defense has held up. But in the past seasons, every time the Crusaders stepped up in class, they could not hold their own. In 2018 it was a 34-14 loss to Dartmouth and a 28-0 loss to New Hampshire, and in 2019, a 44-27 loss to Monmouth. Holy Cross travels to take on the No. 1 seed South Dakota State. When the Jackrabbits are clicking, they can steamroll opponents, ask Western Illinois (45-10) and Southern Illinois (44-3). They have one of the best rushing attacks in the country, with three players who have run for more than 370 yards this season. That includes quarterback Mark Gronowski who has added 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns passing to his 383 yards rushing and six touchdowns. This game will be an uphill battle for the Crusaders. They have not faced firepower of this caliber this season, and unfortunately, the scoreboard will most likely reflect that. SDSU should overwhelm the Crusaders: Jackrabbits 45-17 All true about HC, but I am not sure how relevant those 2018 losses are when we were not dominant, not winning the PL, 4-6 overall. At least the BC score was not given. I think the storyline on HC is that we went from atrocious in 2017 to respectable in 2018 to pretty good in 2019 to who knows what in this 3 game season with a frosh QB and our two most explosive offensive players (Asante and Ayeni) on the sideline. The trajectory of the program has been awesome and I’m looking forward to seeing us continue to improve to where we can compete with the SDSU’s of the world. Not sure it will be Saturday but I’ll be yelling at my TV for three hours anyway.

One day longer to get in this forum than it took me to join Xisonville to see what the Thundering Turd was thinking (thanks for being better than those clowns). Anyway, for anyone making the trip, I suggest Cubbies for pregame if you want the sports bar. I personally will be at the Pheasant for the best Long Island, smoked tator tots and chislic. As far as the game goes, I apologize in advance for the sub par playoff atmosphere as the Rona and NCAA are doing their best to be fun killers. Seems the high is now 48 degrees at kick off with breeze of 14ish. Our injury report isn't long, but Pierre Strong (RB) was dinged and will be very limited if any according to rumors. The good news (for the Jacks) is our back up made 2nd team all conference in the Valley. The overall consensus is the Jacks should be pounding the rock as we feel the 605 Hogs (OL) have a big advantage. Will see a number of quick hitters to the Janke twins and an occasional seam route. If you see the Jacks passing....it means you are in the game. On defense much of the same. The Chain Gang (DL) is 9 deep and come at you in waves. The most effective attack has always been tempo. So, if that is something you have in your gameplan, it has worked in the past. Our LBs have been VERY salty this year and to this point have tackled great. Our DB's are probably the biggest surprise i my opinion but ho get handsy and have caused plenty of dirty laundry on the field. My prediction is 45-17 for the Jacks. 4 Long Islands, 8 Big Waves, 6 Blue Moons and a pint of Hochzeit Schnapps for myself. Let me know if you are making the trip. Be glad to buy you a beer! Good Luck!

What the heck is chislic ? One does not simply try to explain chislic...it is an experience, like Rocky Mountain oysters, but that’s another story. Think of beef or lamb tips fried and served with ranch, bleu cheese or bbq sauce. I did try duck chislic at Minervas in Sioux Falls last week, very good, very rich. Diners, Drive Inns and Dives did and episode at Urban Chislic in Sioux Falls. Chislic there is like wings at BWW.

Are the women's teams called Jillrabbits? 😂, no, lady Jackrabbits. The women’s teams have had their share of success. Soccer and softball compete well and cross country/track field very good teams too. It’s the Women’s basketball team that garners the most success usually though. A D2 championship in the early 2000’s, strong run in the NIT and a couple years ago making it to the sweet 16. They have been a part of March madness most years since going D1.

I will stongly disagree with beef being chislic. Chislic is only venison or sheep (preferably mutton) on a scewer.Typically ordered by the dozen served with garlic salt and pepper and beer. However, that is a debate for another day. For your HC fans curious on a Jackrabbit, it an actual animal. As far as an updated weather report for those making the trip. 2-4 inches of snow is expected Sunday...plan accordingly for the (hopefully) disappointing trip home. (although I still hope you enjoy the fun and unique experience that Brookingshas to offer!

^ this is true...mutton or venison is where it originated. For me it was the only way I could get through mutton. It, like many foods has evolved to include all tastes. Goat is also a very tasty chislic.

You forgot the Hochzeit Schnapps. (If all goes well, I also have a post game celebration I need to to be coherent for) Which includes a $500 bar tab that I bought at the Scholarship Auction. My only question is, how will this captainkarl manage to sneak 14 pounders in the game? (If he was able to snag premium seats, I will pay to find out who gave up their seat.)

^ likely a tweaked ankle is what I’ve heard. If I was to guess I’d say Strong gets 7-10 carries max.

PS2 just tweeked his ankle a little. Since he was coming off a leg injury and we were facing the Thundering Turd, they used an abundance of caution. With Davis being so good as a power back, it would only make sense to limited PS2's carrys.

Is there a Worcester equivalent to chislic? The mayors of Brookings and Wusstah should bet on appetizers. Making it a Massachusetts thing, maybe oysters and cherrystones?
