31-26 now.....we really missed our starting wide-outs last week....seems to be SDSU's weakness

South Dakota State really escaped last nigbt. SIU should have won that game.
You can really see the difference in athleticism between top FCS and PL. The only one of our offensive skill players who played last week that could maybe see the field for SIU would've been Peter Oliver.
Sam Houston State @ JMU Delaware @ South Dakota State
Those are your teo semis. For all the talk of the CAA being a little bit down this year, we could very well have an "all CAA" championship.

Disagree. SDSU will be back on their game. They were a little bit off after surviving HC, but will to UDel without difficulty. Go Jacks!

Was not that impressed with Delaware, who barely beat Sacred Heart. The Jacksonville State QB appeared to tear his ACL (non contact injury) early in the game and the offense went with him. The Delaware QB also had a shoulder injury, non-throwing arm however.

I agree with you that they will be back on their game. SIU threw the kitchen sink at them last night.

I DVR'd the game- cannot figure out why the recording stopped w/1:30 to go (w/Comcast you don't have to add extra time to a scheduled live game, it does it automatically). Did SIU come close to scoring? The play by play mentions an interception but it doesn't seem like they got closer than the 40 and it was pretty much Hail Mary time.

If memory serves, not really a HM but a ball ovah the middle picked at about the 10-15 as the QB was undah distress. Tough loss for SIU....brutal red-zone execution doomed them.

Every game is different I know, but we were not embarrassed like this in Brookings. I really don't think we are that far away from good CAA-level play.
27-3 H

If we had played more than 3 games we would have been better prepared to play S.Dakota St. We need to leave the PL.

If we had played more than 3 games we would have been better prepared to play S.Dakota St. We need to leave the PL. I agree to go anywhere in football you have to. Your the only PL school that has done things to help the football program. You have an indoor football facility. I don't know where you move to? How are you expected to perform in the FCS when you just got done playing 5 PL games in a row to end every season? ? Then you see the speed of the players get much faster and you have to adjust. Does anybody on here think that playing the PL teams gets you ready for the playoffs? Not a chance. Maybe 1 other PL team a year. In the last 4 years of the PL. You have had 1-2 good teams at most. In the fall when we go to Bucknell and win the championship. We are 5-0 in league going into the game and they are 1-4 going into the game. How about when we shut out that Georgetown team and then had to play Monmouth. Were we prepared for that game?

/\ If we were winning absolute 35 point blowouts v our PL opposition every single game that might indicate we could compete for an FCS title.
JMU with a nice defensive stand early.

If we had played more than 3 games we would have been better prepared to play S.Dakota St. We need to leave the PL. Holy Cross does not need to leave the Patriot League in order to have national success. While Chesney has done some great things he's yet to elevate the Crusaders into the national discussion. Colgate, Fordham and Lehigh have all been there within the framework of the PL. I think the stars are aligned for Holy Cross to have a fall season where they're in the Top 15, maybe Top 10, conversation like Colgate was in 2018 or Fordham and Lehigh a few years earlier. You can field REALLY good teams in the PL that garner national respect (national awards, All-American accolades, rankings etc). Unfortunately, it's the institutions who collectively can't get it right on a consistent basis. It's all about getting the right coach in place who can establish a CAA type mentality within the PL framework. Higgins, Lembo, Coen, Biddle, Hunt, Clawson, Moorhead found that recipe. Right now, Lehigh and Colgate fans are frustrated because we/they know their program's potential relative to its current state. Fordham has a real chance to be a respected wingman for Holy Cross this fall. Their talent level is excellent. The Rams have recruited very well and are open to FBS transfers. The key for them is doing the little things right and cleaning up the defense; it's on Conlin. I'm not sure if a PL team can seriously win a title. I think they can make a helluva run at it but usually there's one or two teams that are so much better than everyone else. Simply entering the playoffs with an honest chance to advance is a realistic, "fun" expectation imo. With that said, you do not want to get sent to the #1 seed like HC was this year or a trip to Fargo like excellent Colgate and Lehigh teams faced after beating the CAA champ. Colgate rode two home playoff games and some good fortune to the title game in 2003. Had Lehigh had two home games in '98, '00 and '01 (all undefeated seasons) they might have made one trip to 'Nooga in a then 16 team playoff field. The expanded 24 team field imo hurts teams from smaller conferences. Just too many games for programs without the depth of a JMU, SDSU, NDSU, SHSU etc. The biggest key to HC advancing in the playoffs could be lights....

Going on 30+ years but a scholarship FCS Holy Cross in the PL was consistently Top 10 or Top 20. We nevah really fit into the non-scholarship football PL imo and the results largely show this....we became also rans as Colgate and Lehigh largely took ovah control of PL football supremacy. With scholarships, the practice facilities, Chesney etc, it's a new era for HC football.

Well, Delaware had been 7-0 until today...and got blown out. If it was true for HC, I guess that means the Fighting' Blue Hens do not really deserve to be considered FCS contenders.
SHU had another amazing comeback. Their game in the FCS final could be a good one.

As a comparing......HC was two points better against the Jacks than the Hens.
A little solace.... when comparing both teams in their lost to SDSU.
