Foley was not going to play today. This was not as one-sided as the score makes it appear. 1. The overthrows on wide open passes will be reviewed many times before next year. 2. The dropped punt (after a good defensive stand forcing a 3 and out) with a TD on the next play. 3. Passes dropped by receivers who had the ball in their hands. 4. Blocked FG attempt. It will be better an d this game will help the team gilt improve in next season's ooc games. #5) SDSU plays at a higher level than Monmouth but the results this year and last are in the same ballpark.

So why aren’t we ripping Roper? Offense was horrendous. And that’s nice.

I honestly didn’t feel like they were overwhelmed. I think the offense and play calling was horrendous.

I tip my cap to SDSU. Congratulations! The better team won today. No embarrassment, no shame for HC, today. Expect HC to regroup, get stronger and compete for the PL championship next season, whenever it happens. Onward & Upward.

So why aren’t we ripping Roper? Offense was horrendous. And that’s nice. After half yes. BUT, appeared to me that SDS’s superior talent and depth on defense took hold of the game. As good an OC as Roper is, being down 3-4 offensive starters plus using TWO frosh QB’s, severely handicapped him on any aggressive 2nd half adjustments. To repeat, Roper is a proven Coordinator!

We missed not having "playmakers" on the outside today....kids played hard....the muffed punt and ensuing TD sealed the game....we aren't quite there yet, but we're getting close

The missing playmakers weren't worth 28 pts.

Congratulations to the SDSU Jackrabbits!
They were able to take advantage of our mistakes. They were clearly the stronger team today.
Now we start the plan for UConn. We are now better prepared for September 4, 2021 by playing the #1 FCS team.
Let’s hope with experience, we can have a two headed monster at QB, once they both get enough reps.

The missing playmakers weren't worth 28 pts. Not 28.....Maybe 14. ☹️🤔 A couple of receptions during the first quarter could have made it a bit closer. 110 people on Crossports currently.

If you have two QBs you don't have one.

If you have two QBs you don't have one. Disagree. Redundancy allows flexibility in game planning and execution. PsyOps against the opposition regarding what will be rollout week after week,

If that beginning of the 3rd quarter pass to Gilliam was just a foot higher....

I honestly didn’t feel like they were overwhelmed. I think the offense and play calling was horrendous. Totally disagree. HC's effort was there throughout. There weren't going to win this game but with a few less miscues it could have been pretty close. Against a superior team it really hurt to be missing Foley and our best receivers (although I love Spencer Gilliam). We had to rely too heavily on freshmen (by necessity) and all that comes with it. I don't think there was anything wrong with the play calling. HC will be a better team in the fall.

Sluka will be the QB against UConn imo.....just has to work on his passing/touch etc.....today was what it was, kids played hard, weren't overmatched physically etc....it will be a positive experience in the long run.

Ultimately giving up that much ground yardage is a losing proposition. But scoring 2 out of the 3 tds we left on the table and not muffing that punt makes it a competitive game.

A lot of freshmen got some great experience this spring. We'll get a couple of stud receivers back in the fall as well as an outstanding incoming freshman class. We're getting there.

No need to dissect this any further than simply not having enough firepower on offense.
Sluka was largely boxed up for most of the game and he’s just not there as a passer yet to sustain drives.
If we were going to make a game of this, we needed to capitalize on our opportunities (we didn’t) and limit mistakes (we didn’t).
Defense played their hearts out.

#5) SDSU plays at a higher level than Monmouth but the results this year and last are in the same ballpark. Shows you how bad the Patriot League is Others might say that it shows how strong the MVC is. Your anti-PL bias is showing.

First and foremost, major props to ALL our Crusaders and staff. This is a meaningfully stronger/better team 4 games after having played Monmouth to end the 2019 season.
Lots of young guys also gaining incredibly valuable experience. No substitute for that. How valuable will this game tape be to Coach Chesney and staff? Invaluable. I can hear it now, “Stop the tape. Do you see that. Now run it again.” Over and over.
Competition for playing time is always great for development. We will see plenty of this in the coming years.
Aside from our key miscues today which could have made the score meaningfully closet, the difference in my eyes was the fact that SDSU had great push on both sides of the line. Those long runs SDSU had were a function of the SDSU o line holding their blocks 4-5 yards downfield. On the d line, SDSU had 8-9 guys between 280 and 290 lbs rotating. This showed especially as the 2nd half wore on. That said, how special is Jacob Dobbs? A beast.
If memory serves, I believe we have some big boys coming in this fall on the D line. Run stoppers up the middle are game changers in fcs football.
All this said and going back to the first statement, HC Football is making huge strides. The leadership of Coach Chesney. The manner in which are young men compete on the field and carry themselves off the field is exemplary.
Would have liked to see better execution on those key plays but thinking big picture, really proud of the team. Losing always sucks but today on a national stage against the #1 seed our Crusaders represented. Proud of them.
Let’s Win!!
#Commitment #Excellence ✝️👊🏻👊🏾🏈
