It might be in this thread somewhere but is there any kind of HC tailgate before the game like they did last time? Noon start makes that a little tougher.

There was some talk about that early on. Not sure it was on Crossports but more from HC but have not seen anything of late. I suspect Covid has deep-sixed any plans.

UConn’s season opener @ Fresno St. this Sat. will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network at 2:00PM Which is more advantageous for HC. A UConn loss or victory against Fresno State? For ranking purposes it would be better if they pull off an upset, but not sure about the other intangibles.

Unfortunately the tailgate under a large tent, similar to 2017, will not occur for the UConn game this year.
My understanding from talking to several people involved trying to arrange the reception, the required Covid Protocols for a large reception with food and alcohol, as well as tent rental fees, and catering permits, at The Rent, just made the event not feasible.
However one can still arrange smaller tailgates with your own food and drinks with your family, friends and classmates.

I guess Fresno agreed to an 11am kick in order to get the national tv time from CBSSN - what time is the ‘pregame meal’?

UCONN 2-deep released for the Fresno St. game. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. They list player heights down to the eighth of an inch! I assume because this is how the NFL measures players at the Combine and Player Pro-Day venues. I also like how they highlight “OR” for those positions where there is no 1st or 2nd string (essentially a tie right now.) Positions of note are QB and 3 of the 4 Defensive Backs. I guess you could infer as either they are deep at these positions and as such players will split time OR no one really separated themselves in the pre-season so it’s not necessarily a sign of strength. Guess we will find out soon. uconnhuskies.com/services/download_file.ashx?file_location=https://s3.amazonaws.com/uconnhuskies.com/documents/2021/8/23/Game_1_Depth_Chart.pdf

Good to see that one of the OR quarterbacks has locked-down the place-kick holder spot. Phew!!

Of course not. They are there simply for fun. They do show everyone picks Fresno by a TD or more.

From the UConn swebite: During the 2019 season, senior running back Kevin Mensah joined Jordan Todman as only the second UConn running back in program history to rush for at least 1,000-yards in back-to-back seasons. Mensah enters today's game 1,181 rushing yards shy of tying Donald Brown's program record. He is also five-yards shy of Wilbur Gilliard's fifth-place total and needs only 62-yards to tie Lyle McCombs for fourth place on UConn's all-time rushing list.
Wide receiver Cam Ross and linebacker Jackson Mitchell made strong first impressions during their true freshman year of 2019. Ross led UConn with 60 catches and 723 receiving yards and ranked second nationally among true freshmen in receptions per game (5.5) and total receptions. He also ranked fifth among freshmen in receiving yards and was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American by Pro Football Focus. Mitchell led the nation among true freshmen with 6.5 tackles per game and his 65 total tackles ranked third nationally among true freshmen. Mitchell is one of many Huskies who took advantage of the canceled 2020 season and worked extremely hard in the weight room. Mitchell competed at 210 lbs. during the 2019 season and will open 2021 at 229 lbs.

Based upon public records, UConn will pay HC $425,000 for next weekend’s game. To put that in perspective, UConn will pay Yale $285,000 for their contest.
Not a bad payday for HC. However, UConn is scheduled to receive $1.8 million to play at Michigan in 2022. The money that changes hands in FBS football is pretty staggering.

In The Athletic’s rating of the 130 FBS teams, UConn ranked #128 Fresno State is 86. UMass was #127. To put things into perspective, UMass opens against Pitt and the Whipple offense and then host Boston College. Both those opponents are ranked higher that Fresno State. Pitt is a guess as don't have the Athletics link to verify.
