Somewhere, someone sent me a link to the Kentucky gaming rules. As far as wagering, all results are based on the standing when the final results are officially announced. Any changes (like this) by law do not affect the payout. Churchill Downs and other official wagering sites are not responsible.. That doesn’t necessarily eliminate a cause of action against the cheaters.

Then why not drug the hell out of my horse, have somebody bet the farm on them, crush the competition, take the winnings to the bank, split later, and the who cares about getting DQ-ed, for those unscrupulous frauds out there?...

Well, suppose you drug the hell out of the horse but it stumbles coming out of the gate or gets boxed it in deep stretch? Then your $20,000 win bet at even money does not get cashed.....

I'm minimizing an event that has a lot more in it that strictly speed, it's apparent... but if my horse was on the sauce and that fast couldn't he just run anybody down? I'm just saying there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of consequences for getting caught, only for not winning.

Not really.
He can't be DQ'd until results of split test are back, and just b/c he has a post doesn't equate that he is guaranteed to run. Lot can happen between now and Sat evening.

Pre-test results reportedly due Friday. They will ask Baffert to scratch any horse that tests positive in that round of testing. Not clear when the Derby will make a decision about whether to take away the win.

The New York Racing Association announced Monday it was temporarily suspending Baffert from entering horses in races or using stall space at any of its major tracks, including Belmont Park, which will host the 153rd running of the Belmont Stakes on June 5.

Completely forgot about the Preakness until opening this thread again a few minutes ago. Turns out Rombauer won with Medina Spirit finishing third.

This is a great move by NYRA that will be applauded by all real fans of the sport. Momentum is building to ban this miscreant across the country.
Note also that trainer Linda Rice has had her license revoked for a period of three years for essentially bribing race clerks to provide advance information on what horses had entered races she was considering. That information is not allowed to be revealed until the fields are drawn. Advance info is okay for stakes races,

Baffert ruined this year’s Triple Crown races. Once the news of the positive test spread, it was over for the casual fan’s interest in The Preakness and Belmont. Banning him would limit the impact on future races. If he’s still part of the scene, I suspect the impacts could be more long-lasting.

Officially disqualified this morning. Great, now let's see if we can get Baffer banned for life. I'm also curious to see how the class action lawsuit goes for those of us who would have had substantial winning tickets if he had been DQ'd immediately

So did the other riders that let that horse lead from wire to wire; the Preakness seemed to demonstrate that shouldn't have happened. This wasn't a horse head-and-shoulders better than the competition.

Officially disqualified this morning. There has been no official DQ of Medina Spirit winning the Derby yet, and there certainly wasn't this morning when you posted this. Only action taken to this point is Baffert suspended for two years at Churchill Downs.

Essential Quality, 2YO champ last yearand Derby and Belmont favorite, wins the Belmont, capping a very successful week at Belmont for me. Baffert was no where to be seen and it was great to see a nice crowd at the track. We'll continue with Belmont and await the return to Saratoga which should have an extraordinary meeting with all the pent up demand among racing fans.
