Let's act like a D.1 program and recruit a few reporters to the Luth and have a press conference that we all can see - with masks - or outside the Luth 'without'

I don't know much about college hockey, but he appears to have a superb pedigree at the D1 level.

Other than the construction crew for the Prior, and selected required vendors, for essential services, has the restriction been lifted that will allow selected visitors to campus? My understanding that ID’s must be visible to be on campus at this time.

No one named Jimmy Olsen at this time.🙂

My understanding that ID’s must be visible to be on campus at this time. I think all press 'events' for athletics are still by Zoom. The college warned seniors that if they test positive after May 6, they will miss commencement. The college's priority is a non-virtual commencement, with each graduate allowed two guests. (I don't believe there is a requirement that guests be vaccinated.) So an on-campus press conference to introduce the new hickey coach is likely a low priority in the scheme of things.

Based on the status of our program currently, I like the hire. I am not sure QU had a varsity program when I was at HC. He was there from the beginning of their rise into the ECAC, and they have been a top 4 program in the ECAC for the last 10 years without the pedigree of Harvard or Cornell. Their initial success started by recruiting non-drafted, older players. They have had more success recruiting more ‘blue chip’ players over the last 5-6 yrs, but certainly not at the level of the BC, BU, North Dakota, Denver, some of the Big Ten or even PC programs. In addition, he did a nice job restocking the roster for next year via the transfer portal (I.e. Oliver Chau from UMass and Notre Dame’s starting goalie). He was a guy in the mix for all of the head coaching job openings over the last 5 years or so and seemed to miss his window. Our last hire was the director of hockey operations at PC and not in a recruiting role, Riga has been actively recruiting for QU for his whole time at the school. My 2 cents.
For transparency purposes, I am a bit biased as we were teammates for 1 yr in high school, so I like him personally and want to see him succeed. He has a difficult job in front of him and we are behind the 8-ball with all the activity in the transfer portal, so the turnaround is not going to happen overnight.

I am interested to see his first recruits. I hope they set a positive tone for the talent he will be bringing to the Hill.

Looks like he is a very good recruiter. The biggest challenge (as is with any HC program) is getting talented athletes through the difficult door of admissions. Quinnipiac is not Holy Cross and we know our admissions department has a long history of denying quality athletes. Until things change at the top, HC Athletics will continue to be less than mediocre moving forward.

There is a new Admissions Vice Provost on board at HC now. Effective July 1st he will be taking over for Ann McDermott so there maybe a better chance of talented hockey players allowed admissions to HC. Just a guess on my part.

Is anyone in the portal ? Here is a list and there are no Holy Cross players listed. www.collegehockeynews.com/news/playerMoves/Bentley has two players leaving for Northeastern and Clarkson while getting guys from UConn, UNH, Dartmouth, and Arizona to come in. AIC has guys from Minnesota State and UConn transfers.

If no one is in the portal, how do you know there has been no interest from other teams ? There would be" chatter" about players getting talked about where they are going...15 percent of all College Hockey players are in the portal. www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2021/04/02_Into-the-Great-Wild-Portal.php

and of course, you are aware of all the “chatter” about all the players in and out of the portal. Probably nothing to do with all your other anti-HC posts.

In fairness, HC was terrible this year. We lost to LIU in their 1st ever varsity game. We really don’t have players that would be attractive to other programs so it is no surprise that we are not losing anyone in the transfer portal. Bentley lost one of their better players (and the only drafted player in the AHA) to Northeastern. Most of the other transfers out of the AHA were grad transfers. However, AIC, Bentley and Sacred Heart were able to improve their recruiting classes with players in the transfer portal, so next year will be difficult for us. This past year, HC had 2 transfers (one from Maine and one from Notre Dame). Hopefully, Bill Riga can bring in recruits that would be attractive to other schools and if needed, he has the support of the administration to utilize the transfer portal to augment his recruiting classes.
