With Sluka in the fold for the next 2-3 seasons, would be hard to blame a QB for transferring. Easy for us to cast aspersions but these kids have made tremendous sacrifices to play D1 college football. If there’s no real opportunity to play barring injury, I’d be hard-pressed to fault a kid for going somewhere with a chance to play.

Would not be surprised if both siderman and pesansky both leave. Just my opinion and it’s not conjecture or being mean for the folks who don’t like criticism. Seems like roper likes Sluka ball and will be in play next 3 years.

I think we’ll see several players on the current roster enter the transfer portal, or at least explore it. I’ve heard rumors about it for a few weeks now, with more than a handful feeling rather disappointed how they have been treated by the coaching staff. Not supporting it, but it’s the current state of affairs in college football. With kids having only a few years to play college football, I can’t say I necessarily blame them.

Ewers is the guy who left high school a year early to redshirt and collect NIL money. Kinda like it when one of the very bigs (Ohio State) in effect gets used.

I’ve talked to a father of a freshman who indicated the energy at practice from all players all week was tremendous. His son has gotten to know many upperclassmen and doesn’t see transfers developing much at all. QB - I get that one because only 1 can play. But you also need tape to get money elsewhere for the most part. Siderman I can see.

Also - think about that. Talking about kids transferring after the best HC football season in decades and their first playoff win. As Lamar Jackson would say to those thinking of transferring - Nobody cares, get better.

Yikes. I had no idea the number was this high this soon: HC, like all programs, will have Players they were not expecting enter the portal. It is the current environment and schools need immediate impact players HC has a bunch on the roster that may want a higher level experience. Coaches need to get to recruiting and selling current players this week. Players will be looking doesn’t mean they will leave but they will look.

Coaching changes, and there have been many, I'm sure have caused those numbers to go up.

You think there are current players who will leave for a “higher level experience” after this year? I really hope that’s not true outside of kids who graduate and play their final year while pursuing a graduate degree. I was assuming we’d see a few defections from kids without a clear path to playing time barring injury.

Having a robust out of conference schedule is very helpful in keeping key players from bolting —- for the most part.

I’d imagine a few undergraduates will transfer out for playing time - although if they are looking for FCS or FBS schollies that would be tough. Hopefully we are a destination for an FBS schollie kid looking for playing time.
I can dream.

Question: Would it be possible for the FCS to limit the number of transferees schools could accept annually and the total number on their rosters? For example: 2-3 per annum with no more than 8 in total on the roster. Numbers are for illustrative purposes. Also, the number of FBS transfers could be further restricted to no more than 1 per year per school. Also, could the FCS restrict college football to students actually attending college & disallow "grad students." It's college football not grad school football. And, college rosters would be restricted only to those students who have been in the school no more than 4 or 5 years. Also, could the number of redshirts on any given roster be limited? Let's say 2-3 per year, no more than 9 in total. Obviously, my point is to limit college football to actual college students who are in school to get an education. None of these reforms have a chance. Schools game the system in all ways. Restrict the schools and require students to be college students working within the parameters of the rules. I realize rules are strange to many in this country of unsourced, limitless individual rights.

I realize rules are strange to many in this country of unsourced, limitless rights. 1) The NCAA governance change gives Divisions more authority to make Division specific rules. 2) Although the PL restrictive regulations are regularly panned, and imo miss the mark, they attempt to do what you are talking about. The problem is that in both war and peace, it's generally unwise to unilaterally disarm.

Interesting Twitter post Re: Marco Siderman. Could he be informally shopping himself to other D1 programs in anticipation of a potential transfer portal destination?

I was actually told he’s now in the portal. Not trying to spread rumors but I’ve heard from a couple people he’s not planning on returning. Not shocking to me.

If true..I would wish Marco all the best. he has the talent to be a FCS starting quarterback and contributed meaningfully to the best HC team in 30 years. I’m sure he made lifelong friendships and will be missed. And….next man up. Let’s go Joe P!!
