I think we will see the NEC programs pass the Patriot League in the coming seasons as they are able to get grad transfers into their schools. They are pretty close right now - we lost to one and squeaked by the other we played this year. And we were the class of the PL. A few talented grad students showing up on a mid pack NEC team would certainly (IMHO) push them past a mid pack PL team.

Siderman tweeted out he has received and offer from Eastern Illinois. 1-10 last year. Only one returning QB on the roster. Seems like he’d have an opportunity to earn the full-time job.

I think we’ll see several players on the current roster enter the transfer portal, or at least explore it. I’ve heard rumors about it for a few weeks now, with more than a handful feeling rather disappointed how they have been treated by the coaching staff. Not supporting it, but it’s the current state of affairs in college football. With kids having only a few years to play college football, I can’t say I necessarily blame them. So where are we on this comment? Because I haven't seen anyone else enter the transfer portal or hear anything about it. For what seemed to be a problem doesn't seem to be much of a problem?

I think that players are realizing that the transfer portal isn’t the panacea they envision it to be. Note these sobering statistics recently sent out on Twitter:

If you look at the Top 4 teams in the NEC (SHU, Duquesne, St. Francis, Bryant), collectively that is a much stronger group than the top 4 teams in the Patriot League in 2021 (HC, Colgate, Fordham, Lehigh). And it's not even that close.
If not for Holy Cross, it wouldn't even be a debate. And we very nearly went 0-2 against that league in a year where we won our PL games by an average of 30 points.

I'll quote Lamar Jackson regarding the transfer portal and kids mind sets these days. "No one cares, work harder"

If you believe you are not getting enough playing time at your position(s), it's a good indication that someone else is very likely better than you are at said position(s). Deal with it. That's life and, by the way, many other students aren't getting free rides to college.

RE Marco: Granted I know nothing about his academic credentials or personal intentions but aside from several PL/Ivy schools that I assume would love to have him (if $$ available and QB need)..I wonder if he's eying other schools/programs that have had good football programs historically but have been down recently while still providing top tier academics. Cal Poly - San Louis Obispo (if he wants to get back to CA) and Wofford are two that jump out at me in other conferences.

A light-hearted exchange with Jack Brekke (don't think he'd mind my sharing):
John, I see that you have entered the transfer portal for a possible grad school move. Thanks for your years on the Crusader team and good luck going forward, Just make sure you don't transfer to a school that'll play Holy Cross next season!! I don't want to have to root against you! 😉
John Brekke sent the following message at 4:19 PM
👏👍👎😊😞
XXX, thanks so much for reaching out! I don’t want to see Holy Cross from the other side either, those guys up front gave me enough work in practice already! Thanks again.

A name from the past. Not sure where this would realistically go for him:

^ He was part of last year’s recruiting class but withdrew from the school shortly after summer workouts began.

How is he transferring fromHC if he never was in school? I think he needs to enter the portal as a procedural requirement since he technically signed an NLI with HC for this season. I agree that it seems rather superfluous given that he withdrew from school before classes had even begun.

Poor kid hasn’t played football in probably close to 18 months Anyone signing him will be his third school and he hasn’t played a single down of college football yet. I can’t see anyone taking much of an interest in him given those facts.

We should have a grad program in Public Health-- very easy to do and we have enough people on this board that can teach the classes. Given all that Covid has done to the world and the world of athletics at Holy Cross it would seem a natural option given the role NIH has played- the good-the bad- and the mess
Plenty of learnings and I bet someone would fund a Fauci lab as part of the program or give the program naming rights

Along with the Jesuit tradition of course. And as far as athletics and graduate eligibility goes, this wouldn't help us much....unless every athlete looking to stay in Worcester for a 5th happened to be on a Public Health career track.

The universal extra Covid year of eligibility is exasperating the disadvantage.
But if someone sits at HC as a Freshman for purely development reasons with no injury, do they meet other schools' redshirt requirements to play a fifth year and thus allow them to grad transfer from HC and play one more year, after the extra Covid year expires for all?

Fauci School of Public Health is a logical first venture into graduate studies.
