After Saturday the list of potential commits probably did not increase. Losing to Harvard and Merrimack at home by those margins not a good look. Also the distraction about the chatter the coach could be looking for a bigger opportunity makes it tough to close deal.

While I hear you I'm not so sure about that. The past few seasons they've gone 7-6, or 5-6, but they still had terrific recruiting classes. I'm not so sure 1 or 2 games is a "bad look" because by that same aspect, UCONN, Yale and Monmouth were "great looks". HC will always be a place where the coach is looking for a bigger opportunity - it's the nature of FCS. That won't go away, and again, they've still gotten recruits in the last 3 classes.
The issue from my standpoint is what's the plan? I'm sure they have one - zero doubt, but they have 4 verbals at this point. Are they just waiting to see how many of the 23 Seniors they want back and how many will actually come back for a 5th year, and how much in scholarship money they have to throw at those guys. Kind of throws a wrench into the works as they have a season to coach, but Early Signing Day is also creeping up week by week.

Kind of throws a wrench into the works as they have a season to coach, but Early Signing Day is also creeping up week by week. Excellent points. I have to think that the combination of existing players on the roster having a 5th year of eligibility, coupled with the ability to potentially secure players through the transfer portal, has made the HC staff rethink some of its earlier recruiting philosophy. Looks like they are tailoring recruiting more based upon future need than strictly accumulating talent across the board. There are many talented sophomores and juniors on the current roster who have not seen a lot of game action thus far but are likely earmarked to play more significant roles in the next 2-3 years.

Personally I think HC has overcome a lot of these issues and has had 3 excellent classes in row. My only issue is that it can't just stop there. I fully understand that this is a unique time with the extra year of eligibilty, but what's happening this year makes zero sense to me, and there also is no visibility into this stuff. You can't just have a monster hole in 1 class as that could set you back a few years.
I'm sure it will work out - I'd just like to understand the thoughts around it.

The transfer portal can help a team/coach do some excellent patching on such holes.

I'd agree with that if HC was successful on that up to this point. They've taken 3 to my knowledge - Considine - didn't work out. Daddona - back up Guard; Romboli - never played a game before he was gone. I have first hand knowledge it's not that easy to transfer into HC - credits/classes don't always match up, etc.

Add Griffin Wiegel to the list of recent transfers in to HC. Griffin transferred from Stony Brook.

I would imagine much of our coaching staff has been on the road this week taking advantage of the bye week - it’s crunch time to get a few more commits before the early Dec signing date

I think it all depends on the parents of the players who aren't playing. Are the correct expectations in tact? Freshman OL very rarely get playing time - that's 3 kids. Shorter, Jarmolovich, Ruane, Fuller all have received pretty significant time. Monte, Peterson, McNair have gotten in where it's been expected. You could make an argument for Pesansky seeing the field more - I would say that. And maybe the DL/DBs could see a few more reps - although Townsend did get a sack against Colgate. But I honestly don't see much of a disservice being done.

I know we’ll never get it but it would be good to have some transparency around our recruiting plan for this year. It appears we’re heading for a very small class. I hope that’s a planned thing and that it makes sense based on the number of kids we expect to stick around next year who are on scholarships. Creates a bit of a potential problem 5 years down the road but I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Maybe we supplement this class with some transfers when scholarships free up after the 5th years leave.

Are we looking to sign 8-12 plus our fifth year group?
Or does it depend on the outcome of the next three weeks?
