It doesn't help our recruiting efforts when last week Forbes came out with its list of the Top-50 Colleges in the country and the Top-25 in the Northeast, and Holy Cross wasn't on either list.
I think Vince has some work to do - re-focusing on what got us to the "Ivy League level education" that HCBC references in his recruiting pitches. Not saying that it isn't true, but there are rankings being published that don't reflect that.

Are you saying he should "play the ratings game" that so infuriated Fr. Brooks (and in which he would not participate)?

Are you saying he should "play the ratings game" that so infuriated Fr. Brooks (and in which he would not participate)? Unfortunately, I think colleges have to play the ratings game these days. Northeastern, habitually ranked very low, deconstructed the US News criteria for how it does its ratings and figured out how to do better in each area. They're now overwhelmed with applications. HC is an amazing school but they're not doing a good enough job getting the word out.

I can't think of another school that has transformed its rep more than Northeastern ovah the last 30-40 or so years. While always a fine institution, it went from being seen as a school of hard working kids, maybe first time someone went to college from their families etc to one of being seen as one of the top schools in the country.
HC obviously can't transform itself like NU did for a variety of reasons but we should emulate ways in which it has improved its standing.

I don't think there are any on this Board who don't believe HC belongs on the Top-25 Colleges in the Northeast list, and I'm sure that many, if not most, members of the general public whom, with a general knowledge of higher-ed in the NE, would also have us on such a list. Why aren't we there? Is it naivete and purple-colored glasses on our part? I don't think so. I think the College is as good as it ever was, but I also think we've lost some focus, and may be, like others, searching for sound bites and things that fit what some people want to hear, and not focusing on reality and core principals. (Did you notice how I resisted the urge to use the term "woke"?)

HC definitely has lost some of its cachet in the northeast over the last 30 years and hasn’t made any headway on increasing recognition outside the northeast. But we killed our mascot so the upward trajectory should start any minute.
Lots of opportunity out there for our new President.

Sorry, but if you are going to charge top-tier tuition, you should have top-tier rankings in the major pubs. New president does indeed have some ground to make up.

I believe that Holy Cross has always been ranked high in pubs, especially in Worcester, Boston and New York City

I believe that Holy Cross has always been ranked high in pubs, especially in Worcester, Boston and New York City Tongue-in-cheek, perhaps, but gone are the days when HC could fill a class from those three cities and be considered elite. College admissions is national now and the combination of selling a LAC and a destination without broad based national publicity is a hill to climb. One of the measures of success for private institutions going forward will be to develop one or two programs to which they do better than anyone else, and let that carry the sails of admissions going forward.

He's scheduled to visit HC on 1/21 per his Twitter. If they are in fact hosting recruits and are allowed to have them on campus.

That's great that it looks like Fordham has been deleted as a contender here.

Has 15 offers. 5 from Ivy, UNH, 3 from NEC, and I think every PL school. Took visits to Brown, Colgate already I believe. No clue if they are looking at him as a DT or TE.

We had offered him when he was in high school -- I know that the PL has some rules about how long you have to finish college and assume they have been suspended to some degree by Covid. Anyone have an understanding of how many years of eligibility he would have? Presuming that he has earned some transferable credits at MD, I assume that HC would have to decide how long he could remain a student as well.

We’re not taking anyone with less than 2 years remaining to play - don’t know this specific case but would guess he’s been at Maryland 3 years (incl Covid season) and would come in as an academic and athletic junior - no shame in earning a bachelors degree in 5 yrs
