/\ I agree with the idea that we have sufficient PL-level speed in the backfield but lack a burner. We did see that in our two playoff games as nobody was a threat to break one outside versus better defenses. If this guy has that kind of foot speed (and at 5’10, 180 he’d better) he’d be a good get. He ran 11.01 as a junior outdoors in the 100 meters. Compare that to Kalif Raymond who ran 11.30 as a senior in high school and 10.71 in college. KR only ran one documented short sprint in high school--60 meters in 7.32 as a senior. That converts to about a 6.86 55 meters. Slade ran 6.74 for 55 meters as a junior. We don't know anything about technique (inc. starts) for either so it is not a perfect comparison and doesn't necessarily translate exactly to football. I think it is fair to say that he is entering college at least as fast as KR. I like the looks of that kicker. Also, 11.01 in the 100 meters was the last qualifier for the 100 meters final at the 2021 Patriot League meet.

Still think they are looking at 9 slots right now to fill. On the Sader Stories pod cast Chesney indicated the roster was at 85 with a request on the Presidents desk for the league to increase rosters to 96. Their recruiting activity indicates to me they are going to get that done. Mosey and Santiago verbally commit. 87 spots - leaves 9 open. My best guess: DL - 2 more slots; Reynolds/Jobity/Latore?? HC was Latore's first offer and is still out there DB - 2 slots; Heard still on table from earlier recruitment; Michael Jordan - AF decommit who they offered; Robert Dickerson? K - Palenzuela? RB - Slade? or the kid they recently offered from MD TE - Bousam or another kid? WR - Sanchez if they are still in the mix; DeGennaro - transfer from MD they recently offered Just going off what I've seen on Twitter; maybe we have a Cam McNair surprise or two in the mix as well?

I think TE, DL and K are the most need positions in the roster. We are pretty stacked at LB and DB.

What percentage of recruits get an in-home visit from the head coach--any idea on that? Is it pretty much standard or is this a "pulling out all the stops" move to get a player we really want?

Coach Chesney has a history of recruiting great kickers. Additionally, I believe he has coached these recruits to even greater success in their kicking game. Didn't one of his recruits land up in the NFL? In all likelihood Derek Ng, HC's most recent kicker will at least get a look in the NFL with a decent chance to prove himself. Great education and a great opportunity!

KY Crusader 75 It tells the kid and his parents that he's highly sought after by HC. He and is family are going to be on campus this weekend as well. I'm also going to take a stab at Coach Chesney directly telling the kid about Derek Ng and his success as well as him coaching the Tracy kid at Assumption. And yes we definitely need a good field goal kicker as well and it looks like this kid fits the bill.

Curious that he's still available - any insight into his other offers and why an FBS school is not in the running ?

Slade has a nice mix of FBS and FCS offers. FBS list includes at least UMass, Navy, Toledo, Tulsa and Missouri.

Curious that he's still available - any insight into his other offers and why an FBS school is not in the running ? Only reported offer is from Stetson in December. I know nothing about kicker recruiting but I’m guessing it’s different than other recruiting in terms of willingness to spend big scholarship dollars on them. Also many fewer available spots on rosters for kicker than any other position.

Placekicker recruiting is frequently late-breaking. Lots of reasons. Derek Ng, BTW, is still available as a grad transfer.

Kicker recruiting is different in many ways-- the top 10-15 placekickers are heavily recruited, usually in the FBS and primarily because of leg strength for kick-offs and long field goals. Many kicking camp programs have relationships with schools, and they feed many onto college rosters.
In my experience, punters get more attention early from FBS programs. After the top group of punters and placekickers, a large percentage are recruited later and come in as PWO or get some money.
The FCS schools usually get a punter and kicker later in the process.
Again this is from my family's experience and the kids they attended camp with over the years. That doesn't mean it is true across the board.

It may have been flagged already, but a QB commitment popped on my feed - MAx Mosely from PA.

A QB who throws and likes to run...where have we seen that before? Sounds like he could start as a backup who could step in whenever needed without a major restructuring of the team's offense.

I would not dream of it. It s a nice luxury to have "layers" at some positions...with QB at the top of that list.

And Mark Forcucci. Won the 7A championship in Illinois. Not easy to do. (10-1) Played in the same league as the freshman QB from South Dakota State who beat us 2 years ago.

Agree he’s impressive (and no doubt he’s one of the three who will be seeing the most reps, IMHO). That’s high level high school football in a good football state and he was a three year starter…I’m just a little surprised he didn’t get a ton of offers but I don’t know the back story in terms of the ins and outs of his recruiting.

Any chance Pesansky or Forucci could steal the job from Sluka? Anyone have insight into how the staff views Pesansky after getting a closer look. If I recall, he had quite a few fans here.

I think Sluka is "one for the ages" and that it is likely he has a lock on the job. I'm sure the others will get a chance in practice to show what they can do but it will be tough to beat Sluka's skill set and proven performance

Sluka is a winner. Isn’t the best natural QB but he wins and his teammates love him. Pesansky is by far the better natural QB. Forcucci like Pesansky is more of the natural QB. Not much flash and dash but a great leader. Sluka is our Brett Favre/ Steve Young and the coaches know it but he’s a cocky winner.

Best case scenario for either one barring injury would be to earn a Siderman role. Can’t see Sluka not being the main guy for as long as he’s healthy.
