Lehigh has 2 commits at this point - 1 being Griffin LaRue who HC offered from PA. Lehigh has offered 95 kids at this point - whereas HC has offered 41. Lehigh has 11 Seniors who could theoretically graduate and not return, HC has 23. Everyone is really in the same boat trying to figure out who will return after this season, how many spots they will have on their roster to fill, etc.
Graduates Leaving: 6 DL (2), DB (1), WR (1), OL (2) Seniors in this class: 23 DL (4), WR (3), OL (3), LB (4), TE (1), DB (5), K (1), RB (2)

The Griffin Larue commit was posted on Lehigh's website. Supposedly committed during his official visit, but not on his Twitter page.
There was a tweet from him 5 days ago that said: Where ever I end up, I know it's meant to be.
not sure if richh has any additional color

Wiegel entered the portal in April, stating he has four years of eligibility and a 3.7 GPA (presumably at SB). Wnt to McQuaid Jesuit in Rochester.

He redshirted in 2019 and it looks like he may have played one game in 2020-he had one tackle. 6-3, 210
Thought I had his high school highlights but it turned out to be a different Griffin Wiegel, believe it or not

His Instagram says QB at Holy Cross. Hearing he’s already on campus. He definitely fills a need, with only 3 other QBs on the current roster.

Hard to see he has 4 years of eligibility if he redshirted in 2019

Wiegel was a walk on at SBU and would have been 6th on the SBU QB depth chart this year. (He redshirted at SBU two seasons ago and last season was a Covid season in terms of eligibility)

he was CAA all-academic both years he was at Stony Brook - I don't think HC would make him repeat those years unless they were full of gut courses - my guess is that he's a junior and will have 2 years with us

Guessing his plan would be to play two years at HC and then have two years of eligibility in grad school.
Is he on half or full scholarship or a walk-on?

If he walked on at Stony Brook I hope he is a walk-on at HC. There's nothing in his resume that indicates he is due an upgrade in his scholarship status. It would be great if Coach Chesney is generating interest from players who want to join a quality program and receive excellent coaching. Somebody like this QB, if he is willing to walk on would have many options in FCS and he chose HC. On the other hand perhaps HC had to offer some kind of scholarship because of the need for depth at that position.

I think Coach Chesney knows what he’s doing. Not at all worried about him adding some QB depth in July with a good student with 2 years of experience at a quality program.

I agree 100%--was just wondering what his status was, much as we speculated about Matt Considine a couple of years ago

Outside of the fact that he is obviously a good student, some might be impressed that he was on the Stony Brook team but he was a walk-on. As noted previously, we had a walk-on QB from Wake Forest which is a world better than SB and didn’t play much at HC.
So far there has been nothing posted that reflects his abilities as a football player. On the contrary, he was apparently pretty far down the food chain at SB.
Now, he may turn out to be the second coming of Dom Randolph but I’m going to wait and see for myself.
