Unless you're footing the tuition bill who gives a rat's ass whether he's on scollie or not. Well, if he was on schollie (which we believe is not the case) that is one less scholarship to use with another athlete. if he's a schollie he occupies a roster spot until he graduates... if not i.e. he would be one of at least 5 preferred w/o on this season's roster btw Stony Brook tuition. r & b appears to be $18k

If the case he’s on campus and in the fold it’s another body in the QB room. Doubt he’s getting any money. Coach Chesney and his staff are great at putting their roster together. A few people have posted about the lack of offers. The team has a number of 5th year players and others who will stay longer due to availability of years due to COVID. The word that I’m hearing around the team is “stacked”. We’ll see. Excited for the season to start!

FWIW for non-Long Islanders here, having been born and raised on LI, there is no "e" in Stony Brook, either the university or the town.
While I've got nothing but respect for Stony Brook, which had an excellent academic reputation even when I lived on LI years ago (was considered the best school in SUNY system) and might be even better now, I'm guessing a SB walk-on that played minimally if at all there, is also a walk-on at HC. But I'll also trust Bob Chesney to use his limited schollies judiciously.

Stony Brook has a pretty large contingent of lightly recruited walk- ons (preferred and otherwise) from New York State each year (the cost of attendance for NYS residents is low and financial aid for NYS residents can be VERY generous on top of that). It works out well for all involved (given the school’s strong academic reputation) and Wiegel was part of that contingent.

it's always interesting to guess: of all the players in the QB room who are the ones that BC would really trust to run the offense in the pressure of a game situation? Are most of the QB's on the team usually practice/emergency players?

I'm waiting to see HC throw the new, improved and polished "Sluka Duka" at UConn and see how it works against a presumably bigger, faster FBS team and then the rest of our schedule.

One designated starter but the others have a chance to earn the starting job by their performance in practice as was the case with C.D. and Sluka this Spring.

Will be really interesting to watch the QB competition and see if Sluka holds his role or if Siderman and Pesansky challenge for time?

While he’s generally a running/scrambling mismatch v PL defenses (faster/shiftier than the big guys and stronger than the others) I don’t see that translating v UConn. But that’s OK - we have only one FBS game. Chesney will know if the UConn game is one of those ‘burn the clock, play a couple of QBs, emerge healthy, pick up the check’ type games in any case.

Maybe Coach Chesney will throw a few surprises regarding the QB rotation at UConn.
Bring on the three headed monster......

The three headed monster would work especially well in an opener because there is little film on two of the QBs and I'm hoping after months of refinement, Sluka will be much more polished and well rounded than his Spring film shows.
UConn on the other hand can't camouflage anything against Fresno by looking past them to us so our Defensive Coordinator can put together a good game plan.

This will definitely NOT be a "burn the clock" game. We were ahead of UConn the last time we played them and they needed a comeback to win. We had them 20-14 into the 4th quarter. Chesney's team is superior to that HC team and UConn, who I am not taking as lightly as many here, is probably no stronger than they were in the last iteration despite Edsall's bloviating. What UConn has over us is a game's experience going into the game yet that's a two-edged sword as they may incur some injuries and, as posted by others, gives us game film on their Fresno State game.
UConn is NOT BC, Syracuse or Navy. I will be greatly disappointed (and major league surprised) if Chesney tries to sit on this one. He's looking to make a statement and a decent seed in the NCAAs and playing to keep to a close loss isn't the way to do that and he knows it.

For that matter UConn is no South Dakota State. SDS would beat Syracuse probably give Navy a great game and BC would wear them down with size and numbers. Although the teams in that league SDS, NDS, Northern Iowa have all beaten one or two Big Ten teams.

Ross is a solid player coming from one of NJ's best programs. He would be a good addition for HC (and coming from Bergen Catholic, he is already a Crusader).
