Used almost exclusively in Iceland in building rows of homes and painted to give the illusion of separate wood buildings. It is (as was mentioned) cost efficient, holds up well to their weather (not sure if it would help with the current volcanic eruptions) and lasts. I saw the feature last night night on 60 minutes, and have been following several recent eruptions around the globe including the Congo. Volcanology has become a subject that I follow. www.yahoo.com/news/why-icelands-newest-volcano-unique-232828039.html

The HC promotional video confirmed comments I had read that much of the exterior is corrugated metal siding. ^^^This stuff, that was/is common surrounding junkyards, which is what I associate it with. In some circles, I guess it is now considered quite chic to use this. The cost per square foot is about $5; a third or less than the cost of brick. Would this stuff represent a financially reasonable option to upgrade the Fitton exterior?

Heavens No !!!!!!
When Fitton is remodeled, the exterior should match the exterior of the parking garage next to the stadium. The campus buildings, with the exception the Prior Center, should maintain a traditional red brick facade.

Speaking of the Prior Center, my first impression of the finish was similar to my first impression of the P Park exterior. The rusted look finish of much of the PPAC doesn't do much for me. I am a big fan of the brick finish look and I know it costs more but you get one chance to make a good first impression.

Funny, I've never watch a sporting event by sitting outside staring the the outer walls.
Who cares?!?

The pre-'weathered' steel facade for the PPAC was fabricated in Germany, and I can assure you, costs a lot more than brick. www.champakindustries.com/corten-steel-suppliers-in-germany.htmlI don't know the name of the German company who is the PPAC supplier: Champak mentions a 120 year design life.. Zahner, below, is a US fabricator. www.azahner.com/materials/solanum-steel/

I initially would have preferred the Prior Center to have followed the red brick pattern as well. But as we know, this is certainly not a traditional HC building, in many facets. Looking at the building constantly from the web cam, you can see that the assembling of the exterior is extremely time consuming, with its many angles. Of note, the Prior Center is a distinct landmark and legacy building, designed by architects that are Internationally acclaimed. When completed, The Prior Center will be immediately recognized being at Holy Cross, as O’Kane or Dinand.

The Team and City soft pedalled it, but the cost overruns must have been horrific.

I was an Industrial Arts teacher for 35 years..whenever I had a student ask me "What color should I stain/paint it?" I always told them it was their choice, that is why there are so many choices.....Some of those projects looked great, some I did not care for..But as long as the student liked it, it was great! One would be amazed at the choices people make in materials and color...My Sisters family owns a carpet store, their inventory is mind boggling! Everybody has their own tastes, so just go with it....If you don't care for it, just smile and say "Thaaaat's nice.."

Just an FYI to my fellow posters - I was recently told that hotel rooms on Saturday, October 23 in downtown Worcester are going fast. Not only is the Polar Park game that weekend, but it’s also Parents Weekend at HC. Anyone considering staying overnight for the game should probably reserve a room now. I was able to get in at the Hilton Garden Inn through Booking.com but some of the other downtown hotels were fully booked.

Homewood suites and AC by Marriott are 2 of the newer hotels in the Downtown area, both are walking distance from Polar Park

FYI - Today is the first day when season ticket holders may purchase tickets for the Polar Park game. I purchased mine (Section 1, Row 5). From the rendering of the football field and how it is expected to be configured, Section 1 appears closest to midfield and its behind the HC bench. HC sideline looks like it runs from Section 1 to Section 7, with Section 7 closest to home plate where one of the end zones will be located.

Just got my notice but not as season ticket holder - "To our Board of Trustees, Board of Advisors, President's Council members and lead volunteers-". The cost is $60 per ticket [and that's listed as "general admission"]. This might be too rich for my blood. I am on a fixed income and can watch a lot of games at Fitton for a lot less. Combine that with the likelihood the seats aren't situated as well as Fitton and not sure I won't be watching this on TV. [Edit: it does say it "includes food and drink" but no details]

But given the price,... there's always a first!

I assume that includes all the hot dogs one can eat! In all seriousness, that does seem like a hefty price for a suite in a minor league park to watch PL football.
