For HC87 and others who immediately questioned why HC would move this game to Polar Park, thoughts on the buzz and publicity? Also some doubters on whether this would be a sellout. Not sure how we define sellout but all the seats will be sat in and lots of other GA tickets being sold.
Keep in mind there are only approximately 6,500 actual seats at Polar Park. Nearly 3,000 of its 9,508 capacity is estimated to be standing room in its many congregating areas. If you are fortunate enough to have a seat to sit in, consider this - the $159M construction cost works out to almost $25K for each seat.

50 years ago?!? I know I'm getting older Crucis, but I was a junior when that game was played in 1983, 38 years ago. HC-BC was played in the then new Schaefer Stadium in 1971 due to a snowstorm (game was supposed to be at Fitton)....I attended as a youth, HC battled but lost 21-7...Joe Wilson won the O'Melia I believe. My first HC game-my brother was a freshman at HC and I a senior in HS. We went with a HS/HC classmate of my brother's and his father ,an HC alum, who had received the phone call from HC telling about the change in venues.

Says the guy whose state paid $75M for one Curt Schilling video game…

The stands do look pretty empty. Can you see the video board from the lot?

There wasn't any choice in 1971 to play at Fitton on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The Turkey Day storm gave us somewhere in the 15-20 inch range. No possibility of getting the field and the stands ready after that in that amount of time.
Options were BC, Foxboro, postpone a week or cancel altogether.
1983 was a strange set of circumstances. The odd year meant the game was supposed to be in Worcester. But either BC or HC wanted to change the number of definite home games they had in a season. So they decided to play the game at a neutral site, then go back to Worcester in 1984 (the famous Doug Flutie finale game). The game was set for Harvard Stadium. But then ABC wanted to televise it, no lights in Cambridge so it ended up in Foxborough. Horrible game. Gill Fenerty and Peter Muldoon didn't play. 47-6 I think was the finale, and BC missed a boatload of PAT kicks to boot, should have scored over 50.

Polar Park: a few observations. There were more than 9508 in attendance (safety code reasons may prevent announcing more than that). We had GA tickets, walked around the Park a couple of times and the place was mobbed. It's cool that you can enter the Park from Green Street. There are two roads, perpendicular to Green that lead right into it. I would rather see HC play at Fitton. I felt like I was watching a game in an amusement park. Too many distractions; too much unnecessary noise. I know this is the direction in which professional sports has been moving for quite a while (and the reason why I watch pros on tv) but when I go to a game all I want to focus on is the game.

Ask every single one of the Holy Cross players and they will say this was one of the best experiences they've ever had. Pete Oliver said as much on the post game.
This will be used as a recruiting tool for years to come.....and it will work.

This old timer (and old schooler) will be watching on tv. P.S. Based on my first hand observations, Polar Park crushed it on the concessions yesterday.

Those announcers thought they were broadcasting to Worcester County only. Forget down and distance when they could talk about Joe’s grandfather who played for North in the 50s and was a distant cousin who played for St.John’s Didn’t someone tell them that this was also an ESPN Plus stream ? Hopefully someone will inform them before they embarrass themselves again in two weeks.

How many people outside of family and friends of the two teams was actually watching the game on ESPN Plus? 10k? Can't be much more than that

So keep it up Kevin and Andy.

Last night was a great event. First of all 42-10 is always nice
The place was packed. Unlike most Fitton games, a very high percentage of fans wore purple.
On the flip side, this was an event more than a game. Bunches of people were hanging in the congregating areas and having a great time while only casually paying attention to the game. I have no problem with this. I like the idea of people even be casually interested in the program. It is also kind of opposite of what athletics wants at Fitton. The new plan for Fitton is fans seated and focused on the game, not congregating and only casually aware of the game

Congratulations to Holy Cross, HC Athletics, HC Football and Polar Park for putting on a spectacular, fun and FIRST CLASS event! What a great way to (re)connect with our home city. I am quite sure the businesses in Kelly Square (and beyond) were quite pleased about the extra business and energy that this event brought to them. Obviously, there were many families there because of Family Weekend but my sense is there were MANY older alumni present that would not have otherwise come to a game. A great time for students, parents, alums, etc.! The dominating win was the icing on the cake!

What will be most interesting to me is what our attendance will be at home games for the balance of the season. I hope that those locals and the alums who had not been to a game in a long time--the people who came for the "event"- were favorably impressed by the product on the playing field and will want to see it again on Fitton Field.

I think we should let fans enjoy our sporting events on their terms. Unless we’re selling out games and people who want to watch the game can’t get in, I see no harm in people tailgating or hanging out by the beer stand and talking or whatever they want. As the team continues to put a great product on the field, more of those people will watch more of the game. But it’ll never be 100% glued to the game at all times. Every new baseball stadium being constructed today is designed to allow lots of social interaction with a game in the background. We should embrace that and engage those fans rather than swimming against the tide.

For those who can't access the T&G article, I am following the advice of my legal counsel, Tom, that I can cut & paste the article. BTW, About 3 weeks ago there was a deal of 6 months of all access to T&G on-line for $1. For me that's as good as paying for ESPN+, which I also did. I was so happy for Derrick Ng's TD pass. WOW!
Here's Jen Tolland's article. I believe there is one minor error which I emailed Jen and if I am right, I expect she will modify the on-line story. [Edit: her story is correct and I emailed her that she was right. Apparently, an activity she correctly attributed I thought was an error because apparently, one of the HC players changed his jersey number and the program and roster do not reflect that change). The minor "bad news" is it doesn't include the pictures that are with the story.

No photos is bad news, because one photo (also on the HC website) does make him look very much (as was posted earlier) like a quicker, younger Larry Csonka!

Agree with you! I disagree with this 100 percent. You had people there last night that haven't gone to a game at Fitton in decades. There is no way the week before vs Georgetown was better then yesterday. You couldn't hear the crowd vs the Hoyas. That is the enviroment I want at college football games. The number 1 thing is the players had a blast. Find me a sold out game in the northeast this year for football? That had a better environment yesterday.
