The Holy Cross football team will partner with the Worcester Red Sox to play a game at Polar Park next fall.
The details will be announced at a press conference on Monday at Polar Park.
Holy Cross advanced to the FCS playoffs for the second straight season after winning back-to-back Patriot League titles. The Crusaders finished 3-1 last spring and fell to South Dakota State in the first round.
Polar Park had its grand opening on Tuesday, welcoming 2,377 fans.
Park officials have said the venue will be used for more than baseball. In June, Worcester's high schools will hold graduations on the field.
That will be an awesome experience. Central Mass's football team!
HC has played at Fenway, Braves Field, Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, Ebbets field
Let's Go!

I guess the partnership with Assumption wasn't an exclusive one.

Polar Park trying to make as much money as they can. They will have all kinds of games and events there. I can’t wait! It will get HC football much more attention. Plus I would assume it will sell out. Making it an even better atmosphere.

The WooSox regular season ends on September 19, 2021 away at Syracuse. The last home game is September 12, 2021 against Lehigh Valley. The 2021 schedule does not include a scheduled postseason for league championship playoffs or the Triple A National Championship Game. So looking at the 2021 schedule, anyone care to speculate the team HC will face at Polar Park? October 02, 2021 against Harvard would be the first home HC game after the end of the WooSox schedule. fbschedules.com/holy-cross-football-schedule/Also October 09, 2021 is an open date based on the schedule above. Maybe it is the mystery team that will be announced next week on Monday.

Great opportunity for the people of Worcester to show their support for the Patriot League champions. Gets the game off campus where tailgating and general partying will be unbelievable. 10 to 12,000 in the stands having a great time.

I just did a quick search for football seating at Polar Park. I was not able to see a published rendering, but I did find the renderings of the finished Polar Park, and the surrounding area. Note the renderings published below did not have a brick facade for the Park. www.polarparkseating.com/ballpark-renderings

My guess is a night or twilight games against Georgetown. Saturday night game would be a great draw. Saturday chores are done and all local high school football games have been played. What an opportunity for HC football to back in good graces with the people of Worcester and the surrounding towns. No dealing with parking issues. Pubs and bars for pre and post game fun. Love the thought of it.

I would also love to see other colleges to play there as well as city High Schools.
Wouldn't be surprised if a rink goes up in the winter.

Generally not a fan of football games in baseball stadia but I will definitely be there. Hopefully a night game. Cost of renting PP may not be materially different from renting lights and bringing it downtown should help us connect with the greater Worcester community. Should be fun.

It will be interesting to see how the respective beer policies will be accommodated

Polar Park's fixed seating is 6,000. With standing room, and lying on blankets past the outfield fences, total capacity is about 9,300. Which is why I thought Georgetown would be the opponent. I don't think people will be standing or lying on blankets for a night game in late October / November. Crucis, it seems the brick was too costly, so the stadium was given an industrial, stripped down look. Some would describe it as cheap. It does appear that whatever the original cost estimate was, constructing the original design became too expensive.

Why the fact that not all games will be played at Polar Park needs to be an announcement is a bit strange. Did anyone really think that HC put up a new video board for our football field that they would never use (if they played all of their home games at Polar Park)?

A one off game at Polar will be an "event" that will draw in more people.
I for one will miss the tailgating, but anticipate the in game atmosphere will make up for it. Hopefully if the game is a well played, exciting win, average people who are there for the "event" might think there is some worthwhile football going on and head to Fitton
The allure of an "event" is a very short lived phenomenon, Even at one game a year, I don't think the boost will last more than two or three years. I do think this first game has the potential of bringing in people who could care less about HC, because for that one day, it will be the place to be. Similar to that first night game some years ago
