Do we know what the expectations are for fundraising today? They tell us the goal for participants but little else.
The breakdown of engagement and distribution of donations is interesting. While men's hoops continues to struggle I thought it would have more support in terms of the number of people contributing.

IIRC, ADMB has a $2 million CAF goal in the Athletic Department's strategic plan, but without listing a specific year for achieving such. I could go look it up to be certain , but I am in the midst of finishing taxes.

It's interesting that men's lacrosse so far is second to football in money raised. I think it's great but don't really have an explanation for it. BTW, it appears Bucknell recently had a similar fundraising effort for its athletics and raised 1 million dollars, so I guess our CAF is fairly robust.

BTW, it appears Bucknell recently had a similar fundraising effort for its athletics and raised 1 million dollars, so I guess our CAF is fairly robust. Several sports have traditionally received substantial monies in past campaigns; lacrosse being one. Rowing also is well supported. Baseball usually has done well. This is the first or second year that one can gift to one half of a two gender sport, e.g. men's lacrosse rather than M/W lacrosse. ADNP preferred gifts not be split for a dual gender sport, as he had to make up shortfalls (usually on the women's side) from his budget.

Final total: 4,075 donors, 90% of goal. $1,571,495 in gifts.
These totals presumably reflect yesterday's one-day campaign, and do not include gifts designated for athletics made during the February one-day campaign for the Holy Cross Fund, or contributions designated for athletics and made during the school's fiscal year.

So was the event considered a success? I am an old-school guy, so I prefer to write a check in December of each year. Of note, I received emails from each of the coaches of the four teams I support, which included video embedded in the emails. I thought Coach Chesney's was the best. He obviously put a lot of thought into his mini-pitch, which went on for over 2 minutes. He also displayed a lot passion. I can see why he would be good on the recruiting trail. At the other end of the spectrum, another coach's pitch went for all of 15 seconds. Perhaps he had other things to do that day, but it sure seemed to me like he just "mailed it in."

Disappointing to see the lack of support for women’s hockey given they play in a top conference.

Coach Chesney is an absolute winner. It shows in many ways on, and off, of the field. I am trying very hard not take take what we have there for granted. HC Football is in great hands right now.

Given the pandemic and generally weak performance by many teams I thought it was a decent showing. With that said I thought men’s basketball did better than it deserved, yet so disappointing given what we once were. Basketball, if it was the program we wanted and should raise no less than $250k and probably closer to $500 k
Kudos to some of the other sports that don't get the headlines! Pethaps we should provide greater support for those-they appear more worthy of the investment given the commitment of the fans!

From ADMB
I will note that unlike previous Giving Days, there were no big $ challenge matches (which when met, added substantially to the pot).

From ADMB I will note that unlike previous Giving Days, there were no big $ challenge matches (which when met, added substantially to the pot). both giving days, Annual Fund & CAF, had 'matches' from the Williams' bequest for financial aid endowment; i.e. the new $$ for AF & CAF didn't go to endowment... the CAF match, $477k, might have initiated or added to an endowment fund for student athletes that 'show financial need' The Hope & Access Campaign matches new endowment $$ with Williams $$... see the Billy Collins Endowment; his $250k matched by $250k = $500k endowment for classics majors who show financial need. I interpret 'show financial need' to include students who need to take out loans to cover the costs of attendance

The golf outing raised about $65,000 for the CAF. I assume that netting 65K out of a golf tournament was considered a success.

recvd an email today from the CAF and these pics from Monday's outing were attached -a few familiar faces and many pics to peruse - I note ADMB pointing out what looks like some changes at the top of the hill (lax and softball maybe ?) www.flickr.com/photos/38036628@N07/sets/72157719482012856/

The pictures indicate changes to the Smith Soccer Stadium (hope it will be modified for Lax for a number of reasons). Picture DSC 7572 would seem to indicate a change of turf from grass to another type of surface. DSC 7564 seems to indicate changes to the press box and seating. The new softball facility DSC 7567, will be located to the immediate east of Fr. K Field, located to the immediate south of Smith Stadium. Seating will be on the third base side at an elevation below the current Soccer Stadium. The Field events for Hammer, Javelin, Shot, will be relocated to the current football grass practice field. The picture with ADMB is clear regarding the plan. Can anyone provide commentary who was at the CAF Outing?

The softball field is moved to the top of the hill, to a soccer practice field that is east of Fr. K. field. Home plate is the NW corner of the field. The field event venues (hammer, javelin, shotput, discus) for track and field, which were near the soccer practice field are moved to a football practice field that currently is immediately east of the soccer stadium field. Appears to be more stands, and concession points. May be rest rooms and/or locker rooms on a new plaza level between the soccer field and softball field. Does not appear to be any changes to Fr. K field. This plan appears to be a first phase. _______________ Fr. K field is lined for lacrosse. The soccer stadium is lined for soccer.

Looking forward to seeing what the circles on the pictures at the various locations will provide?
Great to see that HC continues to plan, evolve and reinvent current athletic facilities for the 21st Century. The Upper campus will provide a nice athletic village serving 9 programs....Field Hockey, M/W Track/Field, M/W Soccer, Softball, M/W Lax, Football.
Wonder if a certain notorious critic will approve the changes.....

I had the pleasure of attending the CAF outing in RI. It was a wonderful course that once hosted the PGA championship back in 1931. I believe coach Napoli was instrumental in gaining access to that venue as he spent part of his career there. I shared a cart for 9 holes with Jen, the softball coach. She was long off the tee, usually outdriving me by about 30 yards, much to my chagrin. She could use some help on her short game. She said the Luth has really helped with recruiting. She is excited about the new softball facility, but if I understood correctly from her and Marcus, the whole redo of the fields behind the Hart has yet to be approved by the trustees. She is from NJ (went to Immaculata HS) and was an assistant at Princeton for 3 seasons. Other points of note that I gathered throughout the day:
1) There will be a new soccer/lax stadium with seating for 3,000 and a much improved press box. It will have field turf as will the softball diamond. 2) Grant H. gave a great talk at the reception. It was a well-written and well delivered speech. He is looking forward to another PL championship 3) Marcus put in a plug for the Polar Park game and the Ice Breaker tournament. Capacity at Polar is just under 10,000. Marcus did not play this time. 4) Baseball will have 3 warm-weather trips. I don't recall the teams that are lined up. 5) From a well-placed source, the endowment is on the verge of cracking $1 billion. It all depends on the marks for the PE positions. 6) There were at least 10 coaches in attendance, including both golf coaches, both lax coaches, both hoops coaches, baseball, football, women's ice hockey assistant, women's track and field, both rowing coaches, men's ice hockey and the aforementioned softball coach. I believe I overheard Brett say we are playing Fairfield.
While not as large a turnout as the 1st version of this event, I believe it was a financial success and certainly a fun day. Lots of truck traffic on the way back down I-95, which is a sure sign of an improving economy.
