With the elimination of Ice Hockey, Robert Morris will only sponsor the following men’s sports, Basketball, Football, Golf, Lacrosse and Soccer. Division 1 member institutions have to sponsor at least six for men and eight for women. With the elimination of Women’s Ice Hockey, RMU, will only sponsor eight for Women. It appears they are now one sport below the requirement for D1. Something does not seem quite right in Moon Township. burghhockey.com/rmu-cut-mens-womens-ice-hockey-programs/

Track and Field is two teams with Indoor and Outdoor plus they have Cross Country. www.rmu.edu/about/news/hockey-info

Based on their web site, they sponsored six with hockey. rmucolonials.comen.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I#D-I_schools

We must be missing something here....they wouldn't do this move without having a plan to be in compliance. UPDATE: They added Men's Track and Field and Cross Country last year.

If they need a 6th sport I agree with the suggestion of tennis - they can call ADMB on how to spend next to nothing and lose every match in shutouts

That article was written in 2017 so I guess a lot of handwriting was on the wall. Seems very odd such successful programs are being 86’ed.

Pres of RMU said they must leverage their strategic assets and position the university for future growth. Blah, blah, blah. So much bs and double talk.

I think we're going to see a lot of sports eliminated (at all levels) at many schools in the coming years sadly. It had already started pre-covid and now it will probably get worse.

Wow. Should create some opportunities for other schools to pick up some good players. Stinks for those kids but hopefully it’ll turn out okay for them in the end.

Guy on my summer baseball club played at Northeastern and Mercyhurst, is well plugged-in to the AHA, and says most of the RMU roster will go D3 if they leave school.

RMU had a pretty good freshman this year, Randy Hernandez from Miami. I do not know how the academics and other things stack up, but he could be the best available forward on the RMU team looking at D1.

At the other end of the spectrum, Princeton just announced that they elevating women's rugby to varsity status. What a difference a huge endowment makes.
