This morning, I noticed from reviewing the Linden Lane Web Cam, that the columns of the O’Kane Portico and steps are being renovated.
Along with the Hogan Parking lot and the Prior Center, are there any other construction projects currently underway or planned for this summer?

They have closed off the Upper Campus Road, so entry/exit to the upper campus is via City View. There may be work on the concession stands at Fitton, with beer and wine being sold. I thought the fitness studio in Loyola would be re-purposed, but maybe not www.holycross.edu/campus-recreation/loyola-fitness-studioI have no idea why there still are construction trailers along side the Hart Rink. These first appeared when Luth was being constructed as swing space. Then I believe these converted to fitness space while The Jo was constructed.

Maybe the construction trailers will remain for the use as field offices by Dimeo until the completion of the Prior Center next spring. One trailer could be in use, I am speculating, for Covid Testing of the crew.
Unless there is a need to reclaim space, I hope the Loyola Fitness Studio remains. With the “Jo”, HC has over 55,000 sq ft of space dedicated to student wellness and fitness. Also the Loyola Studio provides flexible options for social distancing for workouts by the students. Especially nice regarding accessibility for the residence of Loyola and Williams.

Replace the bricked-in windows of O’Kane with real/faux glass!

From a vintage postcard on an auction site. The windows look awkward, particularly the square ones at the bottom. I have idea what the white thingees on the roof line are, they look like statues.

Forgot why the clock tower had no clocks for so long.

If there were parked cars or horse drawn buggies we would have a better idea of the time period. I consulted the 1952 Purple Patcher, and a black and white photo of O'Kane has the white thingees not only on the south side of the roof cornice line, but on the north side as well, where O'Kane meshes into Fenwick. Was there not freshman housing on the fourth floor of O'Kane back in the day? In the B&W photo, the white thingees struck me as part of a balustrade for a roof deck. And the campus looks so small in the 1952 photos: eleven buildings. The playing fields on top of the hill look like a farm. The hoops team, which included Cousy, Perry, Markey, didn't travel further than New York City. Stands were packed for baseball. Ice hockey, I think it was a club, had 13 members. Yachting was a varsity sport. The yearbook was dedicated to St. Ignatius, and a militant St. Ignatius at that. Saratoga would look at that Jesuit-themed yearbook and declare it proof-positive that HC was a Jesuit seminary. ________________ Fenwick theater in O'Kane goes, Can't be made code compliant. space will be re-purposed. The Pit, the smaller theater in the O'Kane basement and used for more experimental theater, will be retained and for the same use. Brooks Recital Hall in Fenwick will be retained, and used for performances by small musical ensembles.. All the other spaces in O'Kane & Fenwick go to Prior. Don't know about the music library.

I heard the tale of a student setting the gas pump next to the Jesuit garage (where Smith now is) on fire. Fortunately, a safety shutoff prevented the flames from reaching the tank itself. That event accelerated the abandonment of Fenwick and O'Kane as student housing.

The 1952 Purple Patcher is such a relic of another era. In the hierarchy of student clubs and societies, Knights of Columbus was higher placed than the Purple Key or Alpha Sigma Nu, or the student government association. The Interracial Justice Club is all-White. The entire class is all White. Some student clubs were divided into a club for day students and a club for students living on-campus. The first photo with a female appears near the very end of the yearbook, for Junior Prom. The football team was pretty good, losing only to Tulane and BC in close games. The roster numbered 56. No indication of a freshmen team. The east stands at Fitton are filled.
One curious thing, members of each undergraduate class are grouped in sections. Placement in a section is not alphabetical. Was HC assigning students based on academic achievement and ability, or academic major? E.g., Section A being the brightest, Section K being the least accomplished?

Two semi-trailer loads of something are being unloaded by a crane positioned near the south side of the Hart court. AFAIK, when Hart was renovated concurrently with the construction of Luth, there were no deferred improvements to Hart of the sort requiring a crane.
These semi-trailers were parked for at least two weeks in the parking lot nearest Hart. They may have been parked for a longer period, but the webcam was focused on The Jo.
This leads me to speculate that the contents of the two trailers could be another video board.

Great sleuthing there--lets see how this plays out as new clues emerge The arc of the crane as it delivers materials is toward the soccer field. ADMB did say that more video boards were coming, but gave no indication when or where. My guess is that these trailers were shipped from Daktronics about the same time as the Fitton Field videoboard, and then stored on the Hart lot. HC asked that Fitton board be installed for commencement,

Eagle Eye,....PP, your ability to keenly see and provide insight is valuable.
I just looked at the Web Cam, and it does seem the crane is at the southeast portion of the Soccer Stadium. Let’s hope it is a new video board. The days of “no we won’t, to let get it accomplished”, appear to be on the horizon.
Let’s hope that the boards for the Hart Arena and Hart Rink are now on their way to Mt.St.James.

You mean the new HC rule regarding improvements/upgrades will be "Get 'Er Done?!" I hope so!

By the way, when describing the location of the Holy Cross campus, for marketing and branding purposes, I wish they would use the Mt.St.James description.
Many colleges use the term “On the Hill, or Hilltop” for example Georgetown. Seems fairly generic for a school located in an area located above a portion of the town or city where the campus is located.
Some schools that have use location branding successfully.....”The Farm”, Stanford......”The Heights”, Boston Collège, .....”The Woods”, Dartmouth.....”Westwood”.....UCLA.
Holy Cross could use the Mt.St. James moniker as a unique signature location, particularly since Worcester is now on the ascent regarding image.

They rolled the dice using Campion and Fenwick 4 as residences, although IIRC the kids that lived in those buildings loved it.

When I take the page size up to 125% rather than the 50 percent i was using, Bob Cousy in the back row of the team roster photo becomes Bob Casey. For a pdf file that is only 50 megs, it is the slowest scrolling pdf file I have ever experienced. All these HC yearbooks scroll slow, and this one was slower than any other one I've tried to read. The only way to scroll through with any speed. it is to reduce the page size to 25%.

I inquired about the 'big crane' and was told it was loading new, and removing old, air conditioning units on the roof of an older section of the Hart complex. I replied back, 'How ordinary. How disappointing.'
