I'll put this here because ADMB's reference was for those sports where the number of scollies is at or near the cap, and football has the largest number of such scollies.
A goal for coaches in these sports is not to out-recruit peer institutions, but occasionally to out-recruit a school in a higher conference. For football, the goal is to be a pre-eminent program, and pre-eminence won't be achieved and sustained if one is simply out-recruiting peers. For him, and thus for Chesney, pre-eminent means regularly going beyond the first and second rounds of the FCS playoffs.
He also said the women recruits, when deciding where to go, give greater weight to HC's academic programs and academic rigor than do the men.

Those are excellent observations and strategies. Not at all sure how the other coaches do but do believe Chesney is "recruiting above his weight class." Wonder how many top recruits come to Holy Cross after being impressed by those Ray-Bans?

As long as they are impressed by the man wearing them, that is all that matters.

One step further. I know of high academic kids getting offers from BCS schools that HC is NOT recruiting, as we are shooting even higher and/or already have players or commits that are stronger.

If you paid attention to Chesney's tenure at Assumption he over-recruited that school and is doing the same at Holy Cross.
He is a master recruiter.
