Owen is only 17 years old which is a baby for junior hockey. If the plan is for him to enroll in fall of 2023, we will have another year to evaluate his offensive abilities. From what I gather, he’s a smaller, scrappy guy who does a lot of dirty work and plays a lot bigger than he is. Don’t think he’s being recruited to be our leading scorer though he does have some ability there.

I think that makes a lot of sense HC92, but my more pessimistic side is concerned that he makes a big offensive jump as an 18/19 yr old next season, hits the BFoley point per game threshold and opens up his commitment again. On the optimistic side, I am glad that Riga and his staff are recruiting the BCHL. Outside of the USHL, the BCHL is probably the next best league. We need to get better at recruiting in the BCHL, the more western teams in the NAHL and continue to get a player or two from the USHL. That will allow time for some of the direct from high school players to develop.

Played at Pope Francis. With no state tournament last year in Massachusetts, Pope Francis competed in and won the USA Hockey National HS Championship. He is a current PG at the Hill School.

Jack Seymour, who committed to HC a while back when he was in the AJHL, is now playing in the BCHL. He will turn 21 in April. Wish I lived on his floor when I was a freshman.

Yes, and with 4 players in his recruiting class coming directly from high school, he will most likely be popular with the incoming class.
Brooks is so loaded with college recruits, this trade is a big positive for Jack and HC as he will get top 6 forward minutes in an overall deeper league than the AJHL.

Nice size (6’3” / 215 lbs), 40 pts (7 goals and 33 assists) for a defenseman and +20. Good to see the staff expanding their recruiting foot print to include a kid from the Iron Range of Minnesota.

I just share what I see...he is back on the market now after a coaching change. Take that for what it is...One of the likes on that post is Brady Berard Understood, thought you might have more color than me. Ironically, one of the issues FHCDB dealt with in his time at HC. He got some good verbal commits that outperformed in juniors and went to bigger programs. That includes one of the best goaltenders in college hockey, who signed a NLI at HC and begged out before the ink was dry, Dryden McKay (Minnesota St) McKay just won the Hobey Baker award a few weeks ago and was just banned for a PED violation for six months by the USADA. www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article/hobey-baker-winner-dryden-mckay-discusses-suspension-for-banned-substance/

Hobey Baker is the only person in both the college hockey and college football halls of Fame, was a WWI aviator, and was idolized by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Hobey Baker turned down a contract with the Montreal Canadians because he felt sports should be played for the love of the game, not money. It would appear McKay is no Hobey Baker.

Reading the article, he took a vitamin supplement for Omnicron purposes and the supplement included a banned substance that was not listed on the packaging of said supplement. They were able to prove that by testing an unopened container of the supplement and so he retained his NCAA eligibility and accepted a 6 month international ban as opposed to the standard 4 year ban. Probably a good lesson to avoid most OTC supplements but does not appear that Mr. McKay intended to cheat.

Another recruit heading to juniors . . . This time Spruce Grove of the AJHL, probably the second best AJHL behind Brooks.

The accolades for Dukes defenseman Jonathan Balah are endless, OJHL 2nd Team All-Star, Dukes Player of the Month for February, and many more. The one the Dukes are most proud of is Division 1 College commitment, after the star defenseman committed to Holy Cross University for next season.
Balah joined the Dukes in a pre season trade with Aurora Tigers and had an instant impact on the Dukes team. Known as a highly gifted offensive defenseman, Balah lived up to the hype scoring 51 points (8 goals, 43 assists) in 54 games. The 51 points put Balah in elite company among Dukes all time scoring defenseman, tying for 5th with former Dukes Bryan Helmer and Tyler Lyon.
Dukes head coach, Derek Smith, gave Balah great praise after being reached for comment upon the news of Balah's commitment to Holy Cross. "Johnny is the ultimate competitor. He will go down as one of the best defenseman to put on a Dukes jersey. He was a leader on the ice with his play, and in the locker room. An offensive force and just as good on the other side of the puck. We wish Johnny all the best as he continues his career at Holy Cross."
For Balah, he is excited for what is to come in his hockey future as he begins his collegiate career south of the border. "I am so thrilled for what's to come at Holy Cross, and I am so grateful for all the support along the way. Especially from my coaches and teammates."
Balah becomes the 6th member of the Dukes to earn a college commitment for the 2022-23 season. The Dukes are so excited for Jonathan and his family and look forward to watching him grow at Holy Cross.
