Foley, What is behind your need to be on this board and degrade everything that HC does ? Crossports is a place for HC supporters and alumni to share the "ups and downs" of our dedicated student-athletes. Why do we allow someone like bfoley82 to consistently bash HC athletics and agitate HC fans? It is odd that he tries to make a buck off of HC student-athletes and their families by selling his photographs online, but posts so much negativity about the college on this message board. As a parent of a former HC student-athlete, I have come to appreciate the spirited followers of HC athletics and enjoy the banter on this message board. Is there a message board administrator that can remove bfoley82 from this group? This board is supposed to be made up of HC fans, and I am not sure bfoley82 is one of them. I do NOT cover any Holy Cross events for the school. So not sure what you are saying. I haven't been on that campus since Feb. 15th 2020 for Vermont and before that was November 13th, 2019 for BC.

I'm not sure I favor banishing anyone, but it is puzzling that someone so consistently negative about HC would even want to be on Crossports. Perhaps tonight, after he gets home and kicks the dog, Foley can come up with another place to vent his negativity.

Check out the Galleries section of your website (https://www.foley-photography.com) and then tell me that you are not selling photos of HC athletic events. Did your disdain for HC athletics happen after 2018? Don't get me wrong, your soccer photos are great, but why do you constantly bash HC athletics?

Since Foley has great admiration for Dryden McKay, he will be in attendance next Saturday and Sunday at the Mullen Center when Minnesota State visits UMass in Amherst.
Let’s see how many photos he will post of his favorite Goal Keeper.

On top of that, the facilities hurt HC with him. Here is an interview with him www.neutralzone.net/mens/2017/09/06/lessons_between_pipes_dryden_mckay/When did the college hockey recruiting start for you. What made you chose Holy Cross initially? The first and only college that expressed interest was Holy Cross at the end of my year in Corpus. They were the only school that kept in touch throughout that summer and I eventually went on a visit at the end of October last year. I accepted the offer there because I wasn’t sure another Division 1 offer would present itself. By December, I started to realize that I made a rushed decision without making sure it was a good fit for me academically and athletically. You recently committed to Minnesota State. Tell us about that decision and why you chose that particular program. I chose Minnesota State because it was a perfect fit for me. They have a great business program, beautiful campus, brand new hockey facilities, and an unbelievable coaching staff. It is also relatively close to home. I was in touch with about 5 other schools after my decommitment to Holy Cross and went on one other visit, but after seeing everything Minnesota State had to offer I was convinced it was the place for me. This interview takes the focus off of the HC head coach at the time for me. It sounds like Coach Berard and staff were able to see potential where other schools didn't and recruited a strong player. The fact that Holy Cross didn't have a business major, plays in an older facility, doesn't have a full ride to hand out to everyone and plays in a lower rated D-1 league are challenges. But the same challenges are there for football and they are being overcome so I think consistent steady improvement from our new hockey coaches is possible and looking forward to cheering them on.

I just called the hardware store. They've had a run on pitchforks and torches so I won't be able to join the mob against Foley.😊
I actually learn a lot about college sports from Mr. Foley's posts. Then I learn even more when loyal HC fans take him on with more good facts and points of view.
This latest thread has educated me about the NLI process which is a bit fuzzy to me as I never have been directly involved with one. Thanks everyone.

Hockey is the only D1 sport at Minnesota State. They play off campus in downtown Mankato at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Events Center, a facility that seats 4,832.
The few schools that have a plethora of intercollegiate sports, have each venue that some cannot say is older. Fact of life cycle venue and institutional financial obligations. All in all, despite the ongoing remarks from our resident critic regarding facilities, my review of facilities across a broad spectrum of institutions has shown that HC is punching above its weight regarding the quality and quantity of on campus facilities. The strategic plan unveiled this past summer will help address some of the deficiencies that our resident critic finds to be glaring.

The strategic plan unveiled this past summer will help address some of the deficiencies that our resident critic finds to be glaring. Regarding the downtown arena in Mankato, that is considered less desirable than an on-campus rink in some circles, but it can work out well. A couple of examples come to mind. Sienna Basketball is the biggest draw in their league by far at the Times Union Center in downtown Albany. AIC is a small college that may not be able to afford to build or have room on their city campus for a new arena, but they have been able to become the class of the AHA while playing at the Mass Mutual Center in downtown Springfield. I don't think it's the only factor, but playing in a city owned venue, even occasionally, might help a college team become the community's team. So when you measure HC's facilities against others, don't forget to add our access to the DCU Center and Polar Park which are available as needed for BB, hockey, football and baseball.

Crossports is often a great source of info or misinformation🤔 🤣🤣. Superior to Facebook.😉
Our resident critic is a purveyor of both.

I regret bringing up Dryden McKay. I don’t know what happened, but it seems to have been a very slow news day in Chicago to have an “I team” report on his experience with HC. I find it hard to believe that FHC David Berard misled this kid about his scholarship level. But whatever, Dryden has had a great college career and should play professionally.
The point I was trying to make is that any coach we hire is going to lose recruits to programs in better leagues. FHC David Berard got a verbal commitment from Grant Porter when he was a very good player on a second tier team in a lower tier junior league. Now that this player has made a roster in the best junior league, we are not good enough for him.

Dryden himself has been very clear as to why he is not at HC. It has nothing to do with being misled about financial aid even if that’s what his lawyer came up with as the stated reason for trying to get out of his NLI after he started getting more interest.

I sure like his enthusiasm! “I am very excited to be a part of the Holy Cross hockey program,” said Oliphant about his commitment. “I hope to make a big impact and help the team win an Atlantic championship. I can’t wait to get to Worcester next season and be a Crusader.”

Always a good sign to get a verbal commit from a USHL player

No disrespect to NAHL players, but it seems like the quality of play and quality of character in the USHL is far superior. Great to get some USHL commitments as well as New England Prep. When I was in high school, I had a bunch of friend who were told by potential D1 coaches to play a year of prep and then a year of juniors (I had one friend who just opted for a year of prep and played at SHU when they were not playing to well). None of them wound up in the USHL. I think 2 went to the NAHL and a few stayed more local. Let's hope Riga keeps some of those connections going from his time at the Q.

Is that your backhanded way to say the defense is weak in that league? Or perhaps you are saying that this recruit will be a big help to Holy Cross? Why do I get the impression it's the former?

Owen is only 17 years old which is a baby for junior hockey. If the plan is for him to enroll in fall of 2023, we will have another year to evaluate his offensive abilities.
