Thanks for the photo. Although I like the boldness and appreciate the beauty of the PCPA structure, I must admit its appearance has a Rube Goldberg look to it.. I like the reference. Do you think many of today's students pick up on it?

Sure they do! The Goldbergs was on in 2013 and they aren't that young. I didn't know Jeff Garlin's character's first name was Rube though. Learn something every day! (He's much better on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" coming back later this month).

Thanks again for your on-site photography! The Mahoney Ave. sign is already up. I hope that when you typed that, your keystrokes were pronouncing it properly.

PP As I was politely informed by an Irish lass on the Dingle Peninsula, the language is Irish not Gaelic.

Nickname for Murray perhaps? www.imdb.com/title/tt2712740/characters/nm0307531?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t5I can't wait for Susie Essman to add to her resume (look up The Sweet Sounds of Susie).

Am told that the Hogan Parking Lot webcam had a hardware failure probably due to a lightning strike. A new camera has been ordered! Am told that the new webcam was ordered but unfortunately not in stock. Expected arrival/delivery is early to mid September! The new webcam has arrived and is now in operation showing the "jo"!!!

Thanks for that update! As ACTP knows, I and many other posters watch the webcams religiously as we have nothing better to do with our lives but, I have to admit, I stopped watching on a regular basis because of the lack of activity. A new perspective makes all the difference and returns the allure of watching our beautiful campus and new buildings.
Now, Holy Cross, put one on the quad and right above the Luth front door and I'll really be happy (and would even consider funding those additions).

BTW, "The Jo" (I cringe when write that!) is really lit up with the inside lights streaming through all the windows and all the outside lamp posts makes the area as well lit as daytime. My immediate thought is that Holy Cross' electric bill must be absolutely enormous.

With LED lighting the cost might be reasonable

Yes, they look like very white lights and probably LEDs as I wouldn't think any new construction would have anything but LED. Also helps that the snow and salt on the pavement and roads are reflecting and making it even brighter than usual. That said, there's an awful lot of lights in all those buildings and campus. Calling on Phreek to find out what the electric bill is!

I hope that I am not reading this correctly as it is upside down on The Jo webcam but it appears that someone spelled out in the snow in the Jo plaza "F**k God." Someone tell me that I'm reading that wrong!

I called campus security about this and they sent an officer there. Looked like he took pictures but did not “erase” the message. If it says what I think it does, he should have made the message disappear. No place for this on a Catholic campus.
But, maybe I’m reading it wrong. 🤷

It's been erased. Wasn't watching who did it.

Modern day HVAC systems factor in lighting or other potential heat sources when calculating how much heat or cooling needs to be provided by traditional means.
LEDs usage cost is about a fifth that of an incandescent. And LEDs last 50-100 times longer than an incandescent.
To save on energy costs, HC would turn off the blowers that circulate/exchange air at night. Early in the pandemic, the consultants told HC to keep them running 24/7 to help reduce COVID spread. I do not know whether micron-size particle filters were also installed.

Phreek, I mean this in only the kindest way but we used to have an expression (usually directed at me!): "I asked you for the time and you told me how to build a watch."

I do not know whether micron-size particle filters were also installed. I took a walk on the quiet UConn campus on a summer weekend (yes, visited the Dairy Bar). The place was dead except for the hum of HVAC systems on a room temperature (70 or so) day. I thought that was puzzlingly wasteful, now I know the rest of the story.

You do know that ice cream melts at room temperature, right? Dairy Bar - best ice cream in Connecticut, maybe all of New England!

OK, must be a Holy Cross thing!. I've explained to my almost 10 year old granddaughter (in great detail, I might add!), the definition of "loquacious" and how it runs in the family. Her great grandfather, my father (HC'42), could talk for hours on a subject that interested him, like the Civil War and area he was most expert in. I'd like to think that I'm down a degree or two from there. And my sons, perhaps down another notch, but that's in the ear of the beholder. [Note: those 3 generations of Crusaders were/are history majors] Loquaciousness might be an HC alum thing, too. Imagine if this board were a zoom meeting? As a 4-5 year old, sat next to my loquacious dad as he was shaving(mug/brush) and I talked non-stop, usually asking many questions," most often, Why"? Of course, he took great delight, encouraged me and would often say:" Rivers may come and rivers may go but my little Michael talks on forever." I basked in the glow. Then came the "good" Sisters of Charity- "an empty barrel makes the most noise. Laddie, keep your mouth shut," Delight turned to fear. Presently, my wife says I talk too much to family, friends, strangers and anyone within earshot. Dad won.
