Perhaps this was mentioned at the time, but Mike Vicens' brother, Enrique, '76; was listed in the obituaries. I believe this death was in 2018.
He played JV ball his freshman year. He didn't have great basketball skills and was closer to 6 feet than to Mike's height; but boy could the guy jump, just like Mike.
Another reported death, in 2021, was Ron Plamondon, '75, one of the basketball managers in that era. I wouldn't be surprised if Ron, a local guy, was one of our posters at various times. Always interested in HC sports.

Very sad to hear about Ron. He was a truly loyal son of the College, who was ever present at Basketball and Football games. He will be missed at the Hart Center.

May their souls rest in peace. I pray that Mike is supported as he deals with this family loss.

And I received an email today that my classmate Joe Neary ('74) passed away. Some may remember him as a football player.

Joe was a great guy, and his brother Bob was a special athlete. I remember Joe having the same work ethic and like Bob was certainly not the first off the practice field. Will have a mass said for him and the Neary family. Thank you for letting us know.

hosting-6751.tributes.com/obituary/show/Charles-S.-Hourihan-108511124Charlie was accepted to both Princeton and The College of the Holy Cross to play in their football programs. The College of the Holy Cross offered him a full scholarship and, for those who knew Charlie well, his choice was obvious. Charlie played four years of football at Holy Cross while earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.

That is a lot of bad news in one day. May they all rest in peace.

Were the Neary brothers Worcester Academy grads?
Coco Vicens was, indeed, a great leaper, and Mike's biggest fan as I recall.
Saddened to hear about the loss of these Crusaders

According to his obituary Joe Neary went to Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx.

As I was reading the obit pages, in the Summer 2021 edition of the HC magazine, I unfortunately came across the passing of John McDonough, ‘76.
For those who did not know John, he was an accomplished actor, who stared in the revival of the Captain Kangaroo television show, as well as appearing as the Captain in the Macy’s Parade.
John would have enjoyed the completion of the Prior Center. It is very sad he will not be able to attend or possibly perform in the Arts Center.

From time to time, like all of us, I receive emails from HC about the passing of a classmate. While it's always sad to get such news I always read the person's obituary and I get some comfort reading about all the interesting and commendable ways that many people live their lives. Some of my classmates ended up on trajectories far different than one might have thought from their time at HC.

Joe Neary along with another football player, the late Jim Griffin did me a solid. I was foolishly carrying all my bathroom items in my hands instead of using a bathroom tote bag and the soap slipped then everything went flying and I stepped on the razor with the old style "safety" blade in it. I got a good gash on the bottom of my bare foot and Joe and Jim came out and put bandaids on it like they were my mother. Didn't know them much other than a few chastisements after that like "remember, wear slippers in the hall."

In the old days Ron P. would come over and chat hoops with me before and after games. For me, he was kind of my Crossports before there was Crossports - he always seemed to have a recruiting scoop or two. RIP.
By the way, meant to mention this earlier but forgot: don't recall seeing anything here, but former Crossports poster Root (Frank Rueter, HC Class of '64) passed away, I believe last fall. Really nice man who lived someone out in the Ozarks. He would occasionally PM me to say hello when he wasn't actively posting. RIP as well, Frank.

May all those mentioned above RIP! Of those mentioned I remember Ron for all the times he would stop and chat at basketball/football games and all other HC events that we attended. A quiet man who loved all about HC! Saw this name (Ed Herson) in today's Telegram and it sounded familiar. Ed spent 35 years at Holy Cross and was instrumental in the theater arts. I'm sure it would have been wonderful for him to be able to see the PPAC completed and in operation! May he RIP! www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/telegram/name/edward-herson-obituary?pid=199492756

The late Ken Happe also would have loved seeing the PPAC as well. As a student and professor he spent almost 50 years at HC. I had him for one or two Classics classes at HC and he was brilliant. Not an easy grader though.
