His minimum salary for next year will be $1.035M. On top of that, he should get a signing bonus (last year his signing bonus was $137,500 and $117,500 of his base salary was guaranteed for a total guarantee of $250K even if he never played a snap). Now that he has established himself as a reliable returner and viable offensive weapon, he’ll probably get something more than the minimum and a higher signing bonus. Maybe $1.5M base with $150K signing bonus and $150K guarantee? You have to be careful making too much or you become more attractive to cut.

Seems like the general consensus among Lions fans and writers is that they really like Kalif and would love to have him back but as a 4 or 5 receiver rather than 2 which is what he was for much of the season.

Then, for all of you that follow the NFL much closer than I, is there another home where he can be better utilized?

Then, for all of you that follow the NFL much closer than I, is there another home where he can be better utilized? On the 49ers catching deep balls from Brady, since Tom probably won't be taking AB with him this time.

Then, for all of you that follow the NFL much closer than I, is there another home where he can be better utilized? I suspect most teams will view him as a 4 or 5 WR and a punt returner. Getting bigger numbers will require a better QB who can deliver a deep ball as well as some injuries among his fellow WRs.

Josh Reynolds re-signing with the Lions which decreases the odds Kalif will be back with them. Still possible but everything you read is that they plan to add multiple receivers via draft or free agency who were not on the team last year. Reynolds is a bigger guy so they’re different players but does seem like they want to bring in multiple new WRs.

Dave Birkett of Detroit Free Press reported this morning that the Lions are not likely to retain Kalif. Seems like a mistake to this Lions’ fan and HC alum but not surprising. Lions have been doing the same thing for the last 64 yrs. May work out better for Kalif though. Lions have the second worst odds to win Super Bowl LVII.

One of the few times the Jets got the better of the Pats was when they beat the Colts in Super Bowl 3. Why? Because the Pats were lined up to hire the top assistant coach of either team. They chose Clive Rush of the Jets, an utter disastah*; instead of choosing the Colts' guy, Chuck Noll (IIRC he won a championship or two). *unlike many football people who are borderline lunatics, Rush was a REAL lunatic. packerspastperfect.wordpress.com/2021/02/14/clive-rush/

Off topic: The great Jon Morris was extensively quoted in the article. Saw him play at HC. He had the greatest hit I ever heard at Fitton. The crowd indeed was stunned. Have not seen another lineman with his ability at HC. George Connor(2 years), Vince Promuto, Jon Morris and ? Does he maintain contact with HC?

i had the pleasure of a lengthy conversation with Jon Morris at the Hogan Center ~ 5 years ago the day he was inducted into the Ring of Honor. He felt very honored and had shared proud memories of his days wearing purple on Fitton Field. A gentleman and it struck me among other things that he has done a tremendous job of maintaining his health and physical condition.

Morris was one of the last(Gordie, of course) 2 way HC players dominant on both sides of the ball. Of course, he was an outstanding center, his NFL position. But as middle linebacker, he mirrored and totally limited top BC QB Jack(?) Concannon in our big upset in 1963.

Bob Cousy was the basketball editor for one of the major ones. I remember as a kid I was looking something up in the encyclopedia and drifted over to basketball and noticed his credit. I was impressed.

Kalif will probably be the 2nd highest paid PL grad in the NFL after Fordham's Chase Edmonds just signed a 2 yr free agent deal with the Dolphins for $12.6 Million ($6.1 Mill gteed)

Nice remarks from Dan Campbell --
"I think he was a dang good pickup for us in the spring," Lions coach Dan Campbell said. "Lif really embodies everything that we’re about, just everything that he is made up of. ... Here’s what probably doesn’t always show up for the naked eye is that dude blocks every play. Like, he is blocking somebody every play, the safety, support player in these runs. Teammate catches the ball, he’s looking for a block. And on top of that, he’s a good returner. I’m glad we got him, and he is. He’s dependable is what he is."

This is great news! I like the remarks from Dan Campbell, and I've noticed the blocking as well.
I guess Kalif is the highest paid HC athlete in history. I hope his career continues to thrive and that he invests that $$ wisely. Kalif--don't buy a restaurant or car dealership or speculative real estate or any of the other devices that have ruined athletes financially. Think index funds
