With the football roster up now I thought it might warrant a separate thread for our observations
For example--I see freshman Ryan Ruane is listed as a fullback while he was a DB when we signed him in December 2020

And Jack Norris listed as DB. Thought he was a Kicker/Punter.

Is there a practice schedule that has been released?

Unfortunately…as others have observed, we can’t lend much credence in the football roster. For some reason, at least going back to 2000, players might have their height and weight updated once every 4 years and twice if we were lucky. This has been a theme across multiple administrations, staffs (SID’s/player personnel types etc.) I remember (~2001) one color commentator saying “someone from Slim Fast listed these Holy Cross weights”. Also, take with a grain of salt player positions if they have changed. For example, Mack Korterbein was listed as a DB all year on the roster even though it was obvious he had switched to RB. I think someone commented in another thread that two of our transfer portal players (QB’s Matt C and Chris B) were both considerably heavier when their weights were updated. Chris B closer to ~230 v HC listed 206 and Matt C 225 v HC listed 208. Again, unfortunate but a theme for two decades. In case anyone is interested, almost everyone is considerably bigger and stronger than what they are listed (ex. Dobbs ~235 lbs, Dan Kutz ~250 lbs)

Does it hurt anyone in the program if the heights and weights aren't updated? I can't see where it does but maybe I'm missing something. And scouting at the next level is so thorough I doubt that anyone gets passed over from being looked at if those numbers are inaccurate.

If that's biggest problem the football program is facing I'd say the program is in pretty good shape at the moment (and, sure, I'd like to see more frequent updates, and for hoops as well. It always fascinated me how someone could weigh 233 lbs for 3-4 years).

This board spends time on some inconsequential matters, such as this height/weight stuff

Maybe we are sandbagging the opposition with the new found conditioning and weights.😅
As they line up against a HC player, let’s hope we could hear.....Holy ****, he certainly does not look to be a 200lb TE.🤣

Now see Joseph Townsend on roster. Kid who committed in June then it was reported had a quick change of heart who is now on the roster
By my count they have 95? I’ve heard they need to get to 90. No idea if there is truth to that or not.

No idea if there is truth to that or not. Holy Cross and other PL teams have been above 90 in past years. In 2018,Colgate, HC, and Fordham were above 90, Fordham was high at 96. In 2019, HC was 91, Fordham was 90.

The addition of Townsend (who was not on the roster yesterday when I printed it out) brings the total to 96 players.
I have no idea what limit (if any) applies for this season.

When they see film on Dobbs for example it's fairly obvious he's a little bigger than 220 lbs. It doesn't take a master sleuth to figure out the roster hasn't been updated. It doesn't look good for the players. About ten years ago there were a couple of starting O-lineman who were listed in the 260-280 range and a smaller than average d-line. I was at a game and there were a few guys behind me laughing about it saying they should schedule Worcester State, etc. JMO - It especially doesn't look good when playing against the South Dakota State's.

It’s performance between the lines that is essential for the team. A few pounds here... A few pounds there, being reported on a spreadsheet really is inconsequential. Not sure why any of us should care what a few jamokes making a random comment has any relevance to the current team. What matters is how the team is agile, mobile, and their ability to execute their game day assignments.
Seriously, no credible coach is evaluating HC players and game planning based on only reported weight on the roster. The sandbagging comment was an attempt of humor. Guess I should have used a double ROFLMAO emoji.

I wonder if the weights listed might affect a player's NFL draft potential?? Say Joe Schmoe is an offensive lineman and is all PL first team for a couple of years. Some NFL scout is assigned to look at FCS players for potential, sees some film on Joe and is impressed. Then he looks at the roster and sees Joe listed at 260 and says--"Too bad, he looks talented, but unless you're 295+ you stand no chance in the NFL. We'll pass".
I think the common tendency is to overstate heights and weights

Tomorrow is HC Media Day. We will hopefully get a good amount of info. from those reporting outlets that attend.
Still no word on any open practices or when the first team scrimmage will take place. Since I believe D1 teams are now limited to only 2 full contact scrimmages during the preseason, I would expect those to take place the last 2 weekends in August.

A few clarifying comments and observations about long standing roster misinformation. 1) As it relates to player profiles (position updates and height/lbs), I agree that if this is the only area that lacks attentiveness and precision within the program, we are in very good shape. I’m sure I speak for many former players and alumni that the program is in outstanding hands under Coach Chesney/staff and we all feel very fortunate. However, I’m sure a lot of the “this doesn’t matter” constituency would be singing a very different tune if this were the case in the dog days of the CDA or CTG seasons. This would of course be another indication of the lack of seriousness and attention to detail pervading the program. 2) Specific to player weights, I think many of us that played college football this century just find it odd that literally the most prevailing thought in most player’s minds is achieving and maintaining one’s goal weight. Whether it be every meal/snack (any calorie intake), counting water oz consumption during class or before bed while thinking about hydration and recovery, this is a never ending source of focus and often anxiety for players especially during the season. It’s just strange that all that hard work is not reflected accurately to the public. 3) As for this season, I’ve already noticed a couple other position changes to watch. I believe I saw SR Cullen Honohan #42 in a white offensive jersey. Clearly he would be providing much needed depth to our TE/H-Back numbers (he’s still listed as a LB on the roster and looks bigger than ~225 lbs) I’ve also been watching to see where JR Tyler Purdy #20 is lining up as he’s still listed as a DB but played RB for most of the Spring Season. He’s rumored to be one of our more versatile players.

Fantastic input sader05--this was just what I was hoping to unearth when starting the thread.
Tyler Purdy was a two way player in HS (no doubt holds true for many other college players) and did have two rushing attempts last season for HC

Hearing that there were no apparent injuries during today’s scrimmage. My understanding is that the team will begin its normal in-season practice schedule starting on Monday.
