The players will probably have to be masked on the bus. I hope they can sleep.

My guess is that someone pulled out of the weekend tourney. Many schools play OOC back to back or Friday and Sunday OOC against the opponents. BC is playing Maryland and Northwestern at Durham, NC. UMass is playing Maryland and American in College Park, MD UNH is playing Ohio and Louisville in Louisville, KY UNH is also playing BU and Iowa in Boston later this year. Iowa plays BU the next day. So yea, it is uncommon to play a single game like that.

Thanks to the players for making the trip. HC beat the Red Flash 3-0. Field Hockey sits undefeated and un-scored upon.
Goalie Brooke Ross gets the victory with Emma Laube being credited with a save for playing in goal for the final 15 minutes. Not that I'm aware that saves are official field hockey stats, but we have two goalies who are un-scored upon in D-1 action.

And your point?? We don't know the reason they drove all the way to St. Francis (PA) for a single game. It is just odd.

Two out of three goals were scored by players from South Africa. Good recruiting.

You’re correct that we don’t know the reason for such a long trip,

Perhaps it was a two game series against St. Francis or with another nearby school and HC decided to nix the second game and overnight stay back when the vaccine was unavailable and overnight travel was a riskier proposition.

I think it’s extremely likely that there was a second game that got canceled. However I doubt it had anything to do with overnight travel or Covid. As it was, they stayed in a hotel for a day.

Holy Cross Field Hockey is still undefeated. That has a nice ring to it.

COVID has attacked our team. We have a Tier 1 positive and we had to postpone our game vs. UVM this weekend

I hope our game is postponed instead of cancelled. Nice foliage ride especially for our foreign players later in the season for a winnable game.

17 positives on Sept 4 (out of 480 tested); 3 positives today (out of 24 tested).
Again, I presume these are breakthrough infections among the fully vaccinated, and might not have been detected absent HC's robust testing program of all students.
17 cases seems like it may be a keg party cluster, the party being the day before the start of classes.

Rough start to league play with a 7-2 loss at Bucknell on Saturday - giving up 7 goals in FH is like 50 plus points in a football game, i.e. a bad sign. Goal keeper job still being split between two girls and it appears neither is a clear no.1 Record is 2-3 (0-1 PL)

FH 3-4 overall - 0-2 PL, lost at Lafayette Saturday 4-1 - from the stats the 'pards dominated throughout - had a shots on goal advantage of 19-3, and led in corners 8-2. We have lost our first two league games by an 11-3 margin At least we're back home for our next 4 matches but it's pretty clear we're struggling right now.
