Message from PVR
1) It’s great to have a President who actually has some personality 2) I’m glad to hear he’s moving to Worcester. IMHO, shows he’s invested in HC.

Ditto to both these comments. I'm feeling very positive about our new president.

One of the most impressive things I saw on a move-in day was class dean Earl Peace greeting his class, but wearing a t-shirt and shorts and helping the families carry boxes into the dorm.

Very happy to see on the webcams that the campus is filled with students. It's been a long while - too long. Looked like lots of fun on the Hoval last night.

Better than staring at tar and steamrollers I guess...

ACTP This comment will take us far afield of discussing the Move In Day, but since you mentioned Steamrollers, it caused a childhood memory of Popeye and Bluto driving a Steamroller in one of their epic cartoon battles. Looking through the archives, I was trying to find the cartoon that probably imprinted many regarding watching steamrollers. It was a Popeye cartoon with Bluto driving a steamroller down a street. It was way before your viewing of after school and Saturday morning cartoons. I could not find the cartoon, that I last saw 60 years ago, but I did find a couple of references of why watching a steamroller on the Hogan Parking Lot brings back childhood memories..... The original cartoon was probably too graphic and violent depicting Popeye steamrolling Bluto, so it is not on UTube. I did find two references to the episode. Anyone remember the Popeye / Bluto Steamroller episode? www.etsy.com/listing/649679798/rare-brutus-bluto-die-cast-steam-roller?show_sold_out_detail=1&ref=nla_listing_details

I remember that episode but would never be able to find it. Anyone know why Bluto's name was changed to Brutus in later cartoons?

He was just unhappy with the name his parents gave him at birth and was so sick of it and getting picked on by the bully Popeye that he decided to change it legally but to no avail.

The convocation for the Class of 2025 was held on Tuesday evening in St. Joseph Chapel. No Jesuits present that I could see. The invocation was given by the Protestant chaplain.

My friend and his wife were in the process of dropping their daughter off (or very close to arriving on campus) there in 2005 when Katrina struck. They left and she spent her freshman year at BC before returning. So, someone who's a junior there has never had a normal school year.

It would be a nice come back story if the Green Wave have a successful FB season so the Student Diaspora can rally around the team.

No, this will be a normal school year at HC, God willing and if the rain ever stops, but not at Tulane where juniors won't have a chance at a normal school year until they are seniors.

Hopefully the HC kids will not have the major interruptions that the kids in Tulane are experiencing
Time will tell how normal things will be. Last year the athletes were exempted from the school's mask policy. I haven't heard if that will be true this year or not. I am not currently an athlete at HC so there is no reason for the school to tell me if that exception happens again or have a press release.
Going further down this path, will the band get a mask exemption while performing at games in Hart? Awfully hard to play a horn with a mask on. I hope they do get an exemption, but if not, things won't be too normal for the band kids. Similar logic might apply to the theater kids and others. Our kids are way better off than the kids at Tulane. However, it might be a little early to label the 2021-22 school year as "normal" on Mt St James

There were numerous Jesuits at the Mass of the Holy Spirit welcoming the freshman class on their first afternoon on campus.

By definition, there would have to be at least one priest at any Mass. Not true of a convocation. Not sure if the entire community was present at the Mass of the Holy Spirit, but sad to see the numbers dropping so much
