Geez. That's, what, 25 months on the job? Given the pandemic, he basically never even saw his way through a full and complete academic/athletic year. What exactly has he accomplished here?
I don't think we had enough evidence to know whether Blossom was at all good at his job. But Creighton apparently thinks so. Go figure.
I will say that a Big East/non-football school is a good fit for Blossom's background.
I think now we know why Blossom was so quick to hand-wave the revolving door in the transfer portal as just a sign of the times. Seems like that principle extends to ADs, too.

I think it's fair to say that he never gave the chance to truly Blossom here... ahh the hell with the corny jokes what is going on here?

He got his first major coaching hire jitters out of the way at HC when he hired BN. Let's try an AD who got those jitters out of the way and turned around a dept. successfully at a smaller or lower division school.

Holy sh!t. I hope his successor gives BN a short leash and no contract extension if that's really Marcus' "legacy." Don't recall if a Crossporters told me personally or it was posted here that Marcus' ticket to a better job was not men's basketball but Chesney's football team. Even though Creighton not a football school, back-to-back league championships might have done the trick for him. But talk about "short-timers." Wow. Just WOW! P.S. WCHC, I for one appreciated your pun.

True, but it took Marcus Blossom's "leadership" to get Chesney to win those championships.

This is just ridiculous. I don't know what his contract says but he should be required to write HC a big check for bolting so soon

First, despite the reporting, that's not official at all yet.
Second, if it's true, one of my classmate buddies used to have an expression: "don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out."
I like Marcus personally but have to say that I am no more impressed with his "success" at HC than I was with Nate Pine. It seems that most has been for show rather than on the field/court/ice. Think "fan experience" and scoreboards rather than improved win/loss.

Dear athletics donors, former student-athletes and parents of current student-athletes, I write to inform you that Marcus Blossom, Director of Athletics, recently accepted the athletics director position at Creighton University. His last day at Holy Cross will be September 24th. In his two years with us, Marcus mapped out a strong plan for our athletics program and revitalized the game experience. Our athletic teams experienced success under his leadership, with the football team winning consecutive Patriot League championships in 2020 and 2021. New head coaches in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s ice hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, baseball, women’s rowing, volleyball and women’s ice hockey have started off strong and are poised for future success. Academically, our student athletes continue to rank amongst the nation’s elite. The Crusaders most recently ranked first in the nation with an overall Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 99 percent. Additionally, fifteen Holy Cross teams received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition awards from the NCAA. For the 2020-2021 academic year, Holy Cross student-athletes posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.30, with 540 student-athletes achieving a 3.0 or higher. We are committed to building on the foundation Marcus laid in Athletics. A successful athletics program is critical to Holy Cross as we seek to provide our student athletes with the opportunity to successfully compete at the highest level. I am working with Rick Patterson ’80, Chair of our Board of Trustees, and Doug Baker '81, Chair of the Athletics Committee of the Board, to quickly identify an interim director while we launch a national search for a permanent hire. Sincerely, Vincent D. Rougeau President Crusader Athletics Fund One College Street Worcester, MA 01610-2395 (508) 793-2632 crusaderathletics@holycross.edu www.holycross.edu/give

Yep, just got it. Seems like the kudos to Marcus is how many coaches he's hired rather than current success on the field.

They play baseball at the home of the CWS. They also have one of the top soccer facilities in the country which holds 7,500 fans. gocreighton.com/facilities/morrison-stadium/9

Not for nothing, from the outside looking in, Blossom was very unpolished and lacked leadership skills. Very poor communicator and too big time to connect with his HC community. Talking to this guy was talking to a wall. He also treated his staff with lots of condescension and never any support. Marcus is the reason Chez will leave next year. He soured lots of relationships with his inactions, actions, words and silence. Next pick needs to be of the same communication and leadership styles we embody and cultivate on the Hill. Take the PR out of it. No need to “Be BC.” Grow as HC.

I'd have to look it up but Marcus' tenure at Holy Cross was about as short as Gordon Gee's was as president at Brown. Not sure what the length of Blossom's contract was but Gee had a 5 year minimum contract at Brown that he walked away from at about the 2 year mark and were they pi$$ed at him when he left for Vanderbilt but they never sued him but also never saw it coming. He barely warmed the seat in his office. Maybe Marcus' title was "interim AD" and we just never knew it?

That is the place Holy Cross is right now nationally as seen by the AD moves.

Not sure the number of new coaches will be seen as a positive by candidates for the job. Would be nice to be able to bring in your own coaches but it is what it is.

True, but it took Marcus Blossom's "leadership" to get Chesney to win those championships. I’m sorry, it’s all on Chez. There were several botched unilateral decisions the Athletic Department made which undermined his ability to coach his team. He persevered through them and managed to win a few football games. Good Riddance of MB
