Merrimack is not going to the FCS playoffs. Because they're transition is not complete? That makes yesterday's loss sting a little more. There's no way they're winning the NEC and they won't get an at-large. They may have a shot at beating SHU now that their all-American rb is out for the year, but they're not beating Duquesne.

Merrimack is not going to the FCS playoffs. Because they're transition is not complete? That makes yesterday's loss sting a little more. Stings for many reasons but probably most important reason was a huge loss for recruiting . The recruits in the stands were probably not excited about what happened as it was supposed to be a easy win.

The Merrimack game was more than the loss. It was the way HC lost. A team can get beat but a beatdown from a supposedly overmatched underdog is unfathomable. It was shameful, a disgrace.

It was clearly a loss, but I don't believe it was either a "disgrace" or "shameful"...it is just one game. Just my opinion, but losses do happen. I'm more concerned with how HC plays its next game..Let's remember what CBC said last week about giving the team one night...win or lose...and then moving forward and looking at the next game. Perhaps that was more prophetic than he realized at the time.

As much as want to be BAMA we are not. There has been way bigger upsets this year in college football then us losing on Saturday. That Merrimack team is just as fast and as strong we are. They proved that yesterday. We will see plenty of challenges and adversity throughout the season to see how the team responds. We have to dump the idea they are second class to us. No way with that performance. Did we play great no. But we played ok.

This weekend was a reminder of how unpredictable college football can be on any given Saturday.
Think about this. Last year this Merrimack team lost to Central CT State (CCS).
CCS has been a strong program in the NEC over the last few years and I think was predicted to finish 2nd this year (based on the preseason poll).
Last week CCS lost to D2 Southern CT State.
I wonder what their fan base was like after that loss…

As I understand it, and might be wrong, They can't win the NEC or qualify for an at large bid until the transition period is behind them But they are a very respectable team that gives us match-up issues

I just checked and they will not be eligible for the FCS playoffs until 2023. Good news for HC in the unlikely case we are on the bubble for an at large berth.

So Merrimack is not eligible in the 4th year of their move to FCS/D1 but must complete that season and can then be eligible in the fifth. Thanks for that clarification.
