suppose it's good to keep expectations low after some mediocre seasons (by our standards), but not a peep has been heard about this year's team.
coach gibbons can be pleased that there were two unexpected off-season departures from returning 1st team players: lexi martins (rising sr) graduated early from lehigh and is now playing at GW, and jacquie klotz (rising jr) at bucknell left during the summer and is now enrolled at fordham where she is not intending to play basketball (her mother is a prof there)
these departures should improve our chances.

Here , Not a whole lot to say, as I think it will be a down year in the league. Only 4 players return who All-League 1st 2nd or 3rd Team including Infiniti. DeBoer of Bucknell is the likely Preseason POY (only 1st teamer to return). Bucknell should still be the preseason favorite despite the loss of Klotz, they have alot of returnees who saw mins during the PL season last year. Should see a significant drop off by Army, Lehigh lost 3 starters although I think they get back two or three players that missed last year. Navy has everybody back but is small & wasn't very good last year. Loyola lost there best player, AU should be better , BU, Colgate & Lafayette can't be any worse than they were last year. Preseason will probably be Bucknell #1 and in no particular order HC, Lehigh, AU & Navy. HC is pretty strong at guard w/ Doherty, Thomas & Byrne all back. Looks like Ganser finally healthy, Locke had off season micro-surgery on her knee but hopefully should be ready early in the season, Big question mark for HC is upfront. As I understand it Swords showed up in great condition, turn a lot of weight into muscle, Manis has been impressive & should see significant mins at the 4 and maybe the 5. Hasenauer struggled with a shoulder injury all last season, expect her to be much better this year. Druck might be the hardest worker on the team, if she can make the 3 consistently, could very well get into the regular rotation. Truthfully, if they are going to contend, are going to need Frosh to develop quickly. Pedi, Smith & Springfield were all pretty good scorers in HS and one of HC's biggest weaknesses last year was consistent scoring beyond the arch. I've heard nothing but good things about Morris, a pass first score second PG. She is suppost to be a lock down defender. If I had to guess, would expect the starters to be Doherty, Byrne, Thomas, Ganser & Hasenauer. If they can stay healthy could be a very good team with good size & depth.

HC13- No mention of Nixon? No politics allowed Funny, Sota, my bad, I spoke to someone who attended a practice last week and they said she also is in much better condition than when she came in last season. In limited mins last year I thought she showed very good passing & rebounding skills but is a work in progress on offense. She will see mins but I would guess that if everyone remains generally injury free that Hasenauer, Manis & Swords will share mins early in the season.

13...thanks for the update. Without you, I am afraid the women's team sort of disappears on CROSSPORTS. Here's hoping for a string season (and a healthy one) for the lady Crusaders!.

In fairness, as they completed their recruiting for the 2017 class nearly a year ago, it made for a very quite summer. Beginning to pick the pace on '18, which I think may be a 4 player class vs the 5 potential slots available

She is suppost to be a lock down defender. If I had to guess, would expect the starters to be Doherty, Byrne, Thomas, Ganser & Hasenauer. If they can stay healthy could be a very good team with good size & depth.Very comprehensive analysis. A few comments: 1. Yes, I'm certain DeBoer will be preseason POY and that Bucknell will be preseason pick. The Bison last year had an unprecedented 17-1 record in PL play and were slated to return 8 of their top 9 players plus a strong recruiting class. However they lost Klotz, plus a likely starter at wing (ACL), which clearly weakens them a lot. Klotz was a double-double machine as a sophomore and would have been preseason POY had she stayed. As you point out, she transferred to Fordham,,where her mom is a prof and her twin brother is a student for purely personal reasons. Not playing basketball. She still has a good relationship with her former BU teammates and coaches, and she liked Bucknell. 2. Agree about HC, LU, and Navy being the next group. However I don't see AU contending - unless they have a great freshman or two. They will surely be better but they were 5-13 in league last year. 3. As far as I know, LU gets back two players from injury - a senior who was previously a rotation player but not a starter and a 6-3 soph who missed her whole freshman year. They lost three good starters and at least one other rotation player, but they usually recruit well. 4. Navy is definitely small. Their tallest returning player is 5-8. But they did lose some players. One is graduated forward Peri Curtis, who was one of their top two players and the tallest. Also two rotation players quit basketball, including 5-11 Haley Unger who started all 30 games as a frosh two years ago. 5. Army will clearly see a big drop off, but I still see them as middle-of-the-pack. They had some OK talent on the bench last year. 6. As you say, Loyola figures to be a lot weaker. They not only lost their top player, Colleen Marshall, but also lost a very good forward to graduation. 7. Lafayette may be a bit better, due to improved coaching, but still definitely second division. 8. I disagree on Colgate. I think they will be worse - unless their new coach is a miracle-worker. They lost a fair amount of talent, including Stockhill.

opening night and not a peep about this team. what a few lackluster seasons will do to enthusiasm. playing tonight at manhattan which has a new coach (former asst at va. tech). their program has been subpar for a long time so we should be able to handle the jaspers, provided we play reasonably well.
we have only one senior in ganser and a weak soph class. will have to rely on our juniors and some of the frosh to make their mark fairly soon.

The sophomore class was a problem for women and the non-existent junior class for the men this year. There are, however, some really talented juniors and frosh on this women's team and Maggie Locke had a lot of time as a frosh. I intend to listen to the game (while watching the stats). Manhattan in NYC for the opener is a start that will test the women. GO CROSS
