If 72 is your grad year, you are not old. Agree with much of your post, but not all (seat belts, polio, measles, smoking restrictions, etc.)

If the game was a ring of honor game. HC would have won.

ACTP posted a link to Prof Vic Matheson's excellent YouTube interview on why colleges and universities are having difficulty staffing stadiums. But the nationwide disconnect between job openings and employment / unemployment is not limited to ticket takers at the stadium gates. Article in today's NY Times below. www.nytimes.com/2021/09/16/us/school-shortages-bus-drivers-workers.html?smid=em-shareThere is a persistent shortage of truck drivers in the United States, which is largely centered in the long-haiul trucking industry. www.npr.org/sections/money/2021/05/25/999784202/is-there-really-a-truck-driver-shortageAnd even tech giants. href="https://www.seattletimes.com/business/amazon/amazons-turnover-rate-amid-pandemic-is-at-least-double-the-average-for-retail-and-warehousing-industries/"www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2020/12/30/employee-turnover-linkedin-data-2020.htmlThe average median salary at Facebook is $150,000 a year. Many, many workers feel little allegiance to their employer, and the feeling, in many instances, seems to be reciprocal. Below is a post that I mistakenly posted in another thread. www.fiolamaredc.com/This is an expensive restaurant in the Georgetown area of DC. The landing page is a help wanted ad. Similar help wanted for what I would argue is the best Spanish restaurant in DC. www.delmardc.com/I have no NSFW idea where all the chefs have gone. www.bls.gov/news.release/jolts.t01.htmHowever, the above table on job openings by region and sector gives a small clue. Teachers weren't unemployed during COVID. Schools were open, and classes taught virtually, hybrid, or in person.. There are 2.5x more job openings in state and local education in July 2021 than there were in July 2020. Many teachers have apparently decided to choose another profession, or simply leave the workforce. An anecdotal point. The public schools in a wealthy suburb north of Atlanta have started the school year with some elementary grade classes having no permanent teacher. Where have the teachers of last year gone? Its easier to understand why Britain is currently short 100,000 truck drivers, which has led to major supply disruptions. Drivers from the EU who had worked in the UK pre-Brexit, have returned to their home countries. And visa restrictions limit their returning. So the sceptered isle is now in a pickle.

Brown just announced Masks are Required for ALL INDOOR AND OUTDOOR EVENTS.
I wonder how many Holy Cross alums would throw a fit if they required that for a football game.

So, would people rather all wear masks, even outside at a Fitton football game or go through proving vaccination status or testing status?
To me, the former is not effective because those who don't want to wear masks can and will do the "chin jock" routine like BU basketball players ("you can make me wear a mask, but you can't make me wear it correctly!").

I may be in the minority, but I see myself sometimes wearing masks for the rest of my life. This is the healthiest stretch (knock on wood) that I have had for many years.

Players out on the field too? I imagine there are some limits to the outdoor masking (of the vaccinated and the unvaccinated) in the Age of Covid. Of course one could make the argument that the outdoor mask is a symbol of concern for others (rather than science) in any case. In that case, why not on the field?

You’d think an exceptional academic institution like Brown would follow the science rather than play theater.

After quickly reading the Brown protocols, the unvaccinated can attend outdoor athletic events, and I found no requirement for a spectator to provide evidence of a recent negative test to be admitted.
Would seem to be an arrangement that would be approved by posters on this board who choose not to be vaccinated, and also don't want to shell out the money for a Covid test (which could be more expensive than the ticket).

All - I'm not a frequent poster, but felt it is needed after attending the Merrimack Football game at HC this past week. Quick hitlist of things that failed to meet my expectations: - Covid screening process added 10 minutes to entering the stadium. The Covid screening process was separate from ticket entrance which meant you needed to go to one to be eligible to go to the other. They were 200 feet apart and did not feed one another. There was another 20 minutes to get into the stadium. 30 minutes of lines to get into an event that isn't at Gillette is nonsense. - Drink ticket concept was a joke. Drink tickets were being handed out to whomever went up to the drink ticket wristband disperser. One could argue this method actually could create more underage and excessive drinking. - People were kicked off baseball field 5 minutes into first quarter. I understand they want people to watch the game, but there has to be a better way to navigate this. - Food trucks were an absolute joke. Some ran out of food by 2nd quarter. Process of getting food took 10+ minutes. What happened to a hot dog, diet coke and M&Ms in 60 seconds? - $8 for a 16 oz Carlsberg. How about charging $2 a beer and getting alumni fired up about the experience? Instead we have $7 for a 12oz Truly. - The video board is beautiful. We need to learn how to use it better. - The sound system was the low point of the day. You couldn't hear a thing all day.. a complete complete complete and utter embarrassment. - We can't be taken serious with the visiting locker room we give opponents. - Marcus Blossom was doing game day ops because the event was so understaffed. One, get rid of employees who resign. This is the only business I've ever seen where an AD leaves you high and dry and sticks around. Please leave. We'll be fine. Two, staff more people. It can create a dangerous environment being this understaffed. - The biggest hit of the day was the kids doing chin-ups set up by the Marines. It was more interesting than anything going on the field. FWIW.... - JACARI CARTER #2 for Merrimack was easily the best player on the filed, no question. Redshirt Freshman from New Jersey.

Hoping this completely off the rails thread will die on the vine by kickoff tomorrow. Going off the rails is what makes crossports so unique and special. It's our thing. Its what we do. Quite honestly, I think its fantastic.

Tale of two Saturdays:
1) I was at a bachelor party in Hilton Head during the Merrimack game. Was wrapping up the 18th when I looked at my phone and saw we scored 3 min into the game to go up 7-0. I was thinking "ok we got this" and then by the time I got back to the house and got the game up we were down 21-7 at half....and the little bit of the 2nd half I watched we got completely dominated minus the lucky turnover.
2) Was at a wedding this weekend on the Jersey Shore and the mass was at 2pm. So we were down 14-0 and looking lifeless by the time I headed to church. My jaw hit the bar when I got upstairs at Manasquan CC and the first final score I saw was ours. Chesney pulling the rabbit out of the hat, I love it!

I attended the Brown-URI game this past Saturday. Pretty decent crowd on a nice day (maybe 10K?). New field turf and video board at Brown Stadium, but same troughs in the bathroom. Tailgaters hamming it up maskless in close quarters 10 feet outside the stadium gate. Mask required to enter, but once at your seat, 95%+ of the fans ditched the mask. At halftime, virtually everyone walking through the concourse was maskless. So pointless. The PA guy did announce several times throughout the game that "masks are required at all Brown University athletic events until further notice" even though no one listened.

So the lesson is that going to bachelor parties is the action of godless heathens and leads to HC losses, and attending Mass is the action of the faithful and leads to HC wins.
