Sorry, the friggin' president's box should be on the home side! He's president of the College of the Holy Cross, he ain't visitin'! (nothing against the current president. Met Vince very briefly yesterday and welcomed him to Holy Cross. I know he was waiting to check that off his "to-do" list ). Point is the cameras should be set up on the visitor's side and make it the box formerly known as the "President's Box." Oh, speaking of cameras, I was in the quad looking up at the "towers of Fenwick" and they could have a camera there shooting down on the quad as there is a break in the trees and would capture the pedestrian traffic there. No obstructed view.

Most people I have ever seen at Fitton. I take it you weren't around for the 86' BC game?

Sorry, the friggin' president's box should be on the home side! You want to make the president of the college walk up all those stairs? C'mon now, what did he ever do to you?

I'll get him his own FitBit. It tracks not only steps but flights of stairs.

You mean we have not yet made the press box handicap accessible? Heaven forbid!

By the way, shouldn’t we be crowning the poster who won the competition?

No obstructed view. Guess you should have mentioned the location of the President’s Box to JEB and EBW in 1985 before the last major renovation to Fitton. Always interesting to reread page 380 in “The Man to See”, how EBW got Marvin Davis to contribute $300,000 in 1981 to refurbish the football stadium at Holy Cross. 😊 Great book that all HC students and Alums should read.

Yes. All 23 of us! No--it should be the poster who stated an actual number and who came closest to reported attendance

Uh, I missed that part and only saw this:
Not going to check but based on your comment, would have to assume that you'd be that person. And, pray tell, were we retroactively playing by "Price Is Right" rules?

I can't remember the year, but my spouse and I went up to Easton with a college friend of mine and his spouse to see a Lafayette-HC game. It rained in torrents for most of the game, but my immediate neighbor in the visitors stand proved to be no one other than Fr. John Brooks, S.J. (then the president of HC and my former theology teacher back in the '60s on the Hill. Heils Geschicte, baby!). The game that year was supposed to have been played in Worcester, but it was Lafy's 1,000 game and we agreed to play it in Easton. Brooksie, God bless him, told me that he had been invited to sit in the dry Lafayette President's box on the other side of the field, but declined the honor to sit with the rain soaked small group of Crusader brethren.
Sadly, the same Brooksie, Crusader stalwart and premier supporter of HC athletics, screwed football and (especially basketball) by joining the Patriot League, eschewing along the the way an invitation to join the Big East in basketball. We are still recovering from that awful decision.

Most people I have ever seen at Fitton. I take it you weren't around for the 86' BC game? Wonder what the top attendances are at Fitton since 1991? One surprising possibility was a game against Colgate in 2003, with the Saders coming in w/a record of 1-9 or 1-10 (can't remember if that was an 11 or 12 game schedule). Colgate was undefeated and brought a ton of fans. Maybe the best game HC played that year, just fell short.

It's been stated many, many times on this board how Brooks left the press box out of the renovation. It's a hell of a lot older than the 35 years that you can assign to most of the stadium.

Announced attendance was around 16,000 if I remember correctly.

Both number 1 and number 2 were memorable. That was the worst I have ever seen the field (even the Dartmouth downpour back in 1966 (IIRC) was not that bad.

Two other games that were close to that: 1) UMASS in 2008 => was Homecoming and home opener. We broke 14K for that one. 2) Harvard in 2007 => also Homecoming and home opener. That game was in the high 13K range. I don't remember exactly but our second night game against UNH in 2012 was also well attended but I don't think we broke 13K.

Both number 1 and number 2 were memorable. That was the worst I have ever seen the field (even the Dartmouth downpour back in 1966 (IIRC) was not that bad. The "perfect storm" of bad conditions! 1. An old style grass field, quite dissimilar to the one that's there now. 2. Bucknell game two weeks before chewed it up pretty good (and destroyed the baseball outfield as the school unwisely allowed tailgate parking that day). 3. Rainy conditions for a few days 4. A 12 inch snowfall on top of that. At the time, playing on the old "parking lot" Astroturf was abhorrent to nearly all of us. But in that case the game should have been moved to BC or Foxboro. It didn't do anyone any good.

While that's an a very good average of 9,117, I expect a large drop-off against Georgetown in 2 weeks. The horrible showings at both home games will suppress the attendance and not sure how the weather will be and likely can't match the 2 home games (and away games too).
It was supposed to be the 1970 Class postponed 50th Reunion weekend but people smarter than I postponed it for a second time to next June. But, we have a Class tailgate planned anyway. for the GU game and to give you an idea on what the game attendance might be, so far we only have 10 people signed up for the tailgate and 2 of those are me and my wife and retired Dean Charlie Baker.
I'll be shocked if we have 5,000 at the game. Probably closer to 2,500-3,000.

HC is 1-10 in last 11 homecoming games.
Win in 2011 vs Harvard.
Well on to league play. Time for HC to pick up right where they left off.

Both number 1 and number 2 were memorable. That was the worst I have ever seen the field (even the Dartmouth downpour back in 1966 (IIRC) was not that bad. When I was growing up, whenever someone would complain about bad weather at a sporting event, my father (a BC grad) would remark that he sat in a rainsoaked sell out crowd for 1957 HC v. BC game at Fitton. The Crusader game write up would seem to back that up his description of the day. Apparently, there were 23 fumbles. crossworks.holycross.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2129&context=crusaderThis is another one of those moments when I wish I could still call him and get the whole story.
